I've had my Cayman nearly a year and in that time my local OPC is still unable to source the 981 sports exhaust. Does anyone know of anywhere which may have it in stock or perhaps a spare exahust in their garage ;)

Have you tried an opc from a different franchise ?

they don’t talk to each other very often and it would be useful to get a second opinion from another “chain”

On some of the FB Porsche groups I’m in I’ve seen a lot of posts on lack of availability of the PSE. Hopefully it gets sorted as it’s one of the best sounding exhausts I’ve had on any car.

Norwich Porsche got one in when mine seemed to be playing up last year. It then righted itself so the new one was not needed. May be worth giving them a call.

I'm impressed you got one!

I think I have contacted them multiple times over the past year but it is always on back order with them.

Does it need to be OPC?

Aftermarket systems may be worth looking at unless you're warranty bound.

I was thinking about sticking with the Porsche sports exhaust to have the option to close the valves with the button on the console. The other options available seem to be a lot more expensive or they do not work with the sports exhaust button.

I think I will keep waiting or hope a second hand one turns up.

Try giving Dove House Motors in Rushden, Northants a call. I believe they fit a good after market switchable exhaust. Ask if they can arrange for it to operate off a button in the centre console as per the Porsche exhaust. When I purchased my current car this was something that was mentioned to me but I had other bits done so did not pursue the detail. Good luck.

This is exactly what I'd do.  Had my BGTS serviced there recently along with a new PADM unit & they were very good!

Every time I get in my car and before starting the engine I press the Sport button for the auto stop/start faffery to be turned off and the PSE with Sports gear changes.

re aftermarket, surely you just connect the new exhaust valves to the same lines the PSE connected to. That's what i did when I swapped my 996 PSE box for an after market one. Looking at my 981 pse it looks identical. The button then works as before and you throw the stupid remote fob and all vacuum install kit in the bin.

I believe OP is looking to upgrade the passive system to the PSE, so no existing connections.

I bought a Boxster S a couple of months ago and thanks to the various threads on here I was able see Tequipment pricing for the PSE and get the dealer to agree to honour that price.  Was originally told it was on back order, available some time in October and having just checked again, it's now late November.

Based on the age of this thread, I assume that the date will just keep getting pushed back month on month until they finally get sorted with a new supplier?

I think they are at almost 2 years without stock, ie they are breaking the law by not supporting the spare parts for 10 years.

I gave up waiting and fitted a Topgear valved system.  This can either be plumbed to the existing Vacuum switches, or comes with an aftermarket kit that uses a supplied remote control fob.

Be advised the the OEM PSE also comes with a re-map.

What's your experience with the Topgear valved system?  I'd prefer to keep the car OEM but it's sounding (pun intended) like it's sometime never with Porsche.

The problem is with a non oem exhaust is keeping the OPC warranty at renewal time with either a broken exhaust or a non OEM version, neither of which are the owners fault.

There were several reports of the warranty failing the 111 point check with, for example,. Zunsport grilles fitted.

Important thing to note but as I bought one of the cheapest S cars on the market, a 2012 with 82k miles so the only reason it's going near an OPC is to get Cruise control (done) and Sports exhaust (hopefully) retrofitted as it's cheaper with the Tequipment price than a specialist.  Outside of that I plan to use RPMTechnic, Rennworks or similar (though I would probably have to drive past OPC to get to them 😆)
