Tick tick boom!

Firstly thank you to everyone who I've spoken to so far today who have given words of support and help.

I'll try to be concise with this...

Service and inspection done last week by Performance Porsche in brighouse, Bradford.

Cam variation was 5 degrees out but I was advised by Paul aka @TROOPER88 that Porsche say anything up to 6 degrees is within tolerance. (Don't know if this is relevant but better to know just in case)

On track today I was enjoying the sessions and then in the following clip you will hear on the right turn at the end of the main straight that a weird tinny noise appeared. Then an error message stating 'low oil pressure warning' light came up on the dash for a split second then disappeared.

Pulled into the pits to get the car checked over and the oil an coolant were fine and no leaks etc.

it's a shame as my heel and toe were getting out point ...

So after speaking to the guys they advised me to drive to the closest service station and then call my recovery.

Whilst on route nursing the car to the service station I noticed engine power being revoked and then the noises it made were horrendous so pulled into a cone off section of the M1.

Car is now with performance porsche Indy in bradford and they are gong to investigate!

Fun times ahead!

Doesn't sound good but hope it ends well.

Was the oil filter inspected at service? In hindsight maybe a tow off the circuit might have been better or recovery straight away.

Sad news and I hope you get it sorted without it being too painful (expensive).

What a bastard as you were enjoying yourself on the track, I will interested to hear what the issue is as it was recently serviced and even though you would have been pushing hard I doubt you were anywhere near the car’s limits.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Good luck fizz.

Hey, your car has lasted longer than a 718 manual gearbox…

Several on here have had pricey but happy endings to such stories.

I will have to ask them... the last service last year before this i did myself and checked the filter and it was totally clean.

Mehh... hindsight is great but was worried about recovery from a track.

I appreciate the crossed fingers but it really does sound terminal i afraid. Its sad but these things happen and id rather this than having an accident on track.

Cheers mate, I've been saying to others that im sad but id rather this have happened now after 3 years years of driving it as a daily and enjoying it than if it was just after buying it!

1st world issues... Life is too short and LOADS of people are in worst situations than 'ohh my Porsche just blew up'.

Lets see what happens going forward and i hope the 718 owners with issues get sorted as well.

Yeah, you did the right thing - unless you have specific track cover on your insurance/breakdown, you would have had problems getting them out and in any later insurance claim.

Sorry to hear about that - I've only been on track once (not in the Boxster) and while it was great fun, I don't think I'll ever risk my 19 year old jalopy on a track 🙂

Given others' experiences, I'm guessing it's uneconomic to repair.  In that you're looking at 3k+ for a car of value 6-7k. And as was detailed here not long ago, when you strip or change the engine, there is a lot of "you know, while I'm in there, I might as well...." which can boost it to 5k.

So you may already be thinking how much do I love/trust this car and want to spend money I'll never get back [weird view as who does get money back from car repairs?] to put it back on the road... against how much do I wave goodbye to it for 2-3k and put that and the "engine" money into another car, usually a newer one considered an upgrade.

Of course I could be totally wrong. Regulars to this board are quite used to that. As is my wife, apparently.

There is a lot of man maths due thats for sure and i need to consider all alternatives.  considering i've just spent over £2k on a full suspension refresh all this car needs is an engine to drop into it. I would need to find out how much someone would be prepared to give me for the car as it stands (very proudly on new suspension!) vs being able to source and drop a replacement engine into it.

A replacement engine from a reputable breaker would be my suggestion. If you have room in the garage you could always take out the old engine and fix that at your leisure - IF it's viable.

I see engines on eBay all the time for not bad money.

Excellent attitude, I love that, and it's exactly how I feel after my recent injury "Oh no, I've hurt my knee while skiing for the 2nd time this winter..."  And of course the classic "Oh no, I can't get into my Porsche for the next few months, this is a nightmare..." 😂  Meanwhile, every time I've been to hospital I am literally surrounded by people who are a LOT worse off than me. As you say, a first world problem.

On the plus side, it looks like the GoPro I sold you was performing brilliantly, and the footage looks awesome mate 👍

There's a lot to be said about appreciating the good things you have in life and prioritising everything. i bought the Porsche knowing it could do this at anytime and i took the risk and was to an extent prepaid it could happen and if it did i wouldn't cry about it.

Now remind myself 🤔Why would I want to do a track day, it’s never appealed to me , and so many stories of expensive damage , no I will stick to hooning down quiet B roads

Too chicken to give it a go in case you find out you're slower than me???? 😛😛

@fizzReally sorry to hear this, our worst nightmare with the M96, fingers crossed it’s repairable at a reasonable investment. The positive is that there is such a great community, lots of potential options for independent specialists etc, such a collective knowledge around the cars to hopefully provide some palatable options for getting back on the road.🤞
