Washing-up liquid is engineered specifically to break down and remove grease, so it will strip any wax or paint sealant from surfaces on your car. Although it gets the car “clean”, dish soap will cause more harm than good and can even dull paint

Exactly this. @Davey P uses it for screen wash so no doubt his butler uses it to wash the car with as well ;)

  2. Got my insurance renewal of £483. So £30 less than last year.... a quick look at the comparison sites and it appears to be the cheapest quote as well. Which is still a cheaper premium than the £1000 Alfa GT was... mad world

Interesting that the comparison sites pre fill in the estimated value, got from between £18k and £22k depending on the site #Oldoutyaaaaand

There is the really basic which has not a/c pump so just works with warm engine air and ambient air to your set fan and your set position for hot/cold setting.  Then A/C which just provides hot/cold airflow you control as above.  Climate Control is a closed loop system which actively works to maintain the temp you have requested controlling the output and fan speed automatically.

I am aware of the options available :D

Number 2 is fine imo, but everyone is different :)

My 987 S just has basic up/down temperature control rather than climate control, yet has BOSE. Odd configurator options at play.

I disagree... I do not see the difference in sliding a bar up until the temp is right rather than pay more for it to display a figure instead. Rather spend the difference on more important stuff, like a heated steering wheel lol

I would say they aren’t fitted for fun, therefore there will be some effect of not using them.

I assume the 986 is the same as the 987 in as much as they stick to the pads so reusing the old ones will require cleaning the surfaces and replacing the adhesive.

Does it matter ?   Will you notice ? Honestly. I don’t know.  Maybe the pads might squeal a bit.  Maybe they will wear a bit faster.  Maybe they will wear unevenly. Maybe none or all of the above  maybe something else

    But its brakes.

This... Porsche did not add them for fun.

When I had my 986S the brakes squealed and the last owner had not fitted the shims, bought some and had them fitted and squealing stopped

I’ve never had an issue with this.  I think brake corrosion is more a symptom of how often you are using the car.  Washing car and then putting it in the garage and not using the car for weeks (or longer) then yes make sure things are dried before it’s put away. If the car is going to be driven the next day (or next few days) then I wouldn’t worry too much.  I’ve never dried my brakes after cleaning and just changed the front disks after 8 years and 40k miles, no hint of rust on the rotors (nor the rears).

Same...mine is a daily driver and never had an issue with the inside of the discs on any of the 4 Boxsters I have owned

Honestly.  Nope.  I like the trimmings. But we all like what we like.

Same. Heated seats, heated steering wheel and air con all the way.

The weight difference is not really that relevant unless you are in a race series.

Don't let him entice you in with his talk of unicorns - we all know how much he paid for it remember 😛

Don't forget I have spent £1k on tyres and £1k on paintwork etc so currently stands me in near as damn it £18k which is not a lot less than its worth

Think I was told on here previously that there were relatively few 987 gen2 cars sold at the time, which maybe why we don't see as many on the market.

Of course, probably total b*ll*x 🤷‍♂️

I dunno, they were not out that long before the 981 came along so there will be lower numbers. You need a heated steering wheel in your life :D

Yeah, grip is great because they leave more rubber on the road than other tyres as they wear down quickly... 🤣

Seriously they are a good grippy tyre.

I do about 300 miles a month, sure they will last plenty of time lol

  11. I would not bother with the Zunsport centre grill, it is a PITA to fit and there is nothing behind where it goes to protect from leaves.

Today I realised just how good the Bi Xenon PDLS are... now its proper winter, they really are so much better than the normal bulb ones

Really daft question but i noticed my Boxster 986S has a front heated windscreen fitted as well as a rear one but how do i turn it on.

I have a button that looks to defrost the wing mirrors and rear window but is it the same button for the front

Had the car 4 weeks and still learning as i have no manual

    Thanks

    Rob

It wont be a heated screen, the lines you can see in the glass will be the aerial

  13. So the garage said the puncture is not repairable (big surprise there huh) On the plus side, they are a Black Circles garage and they have 10% off Yokohama tyres at the mo so a pair of rears fitted is £365... although they are not in stock and I am not off next till Saturday so thats me using my mini tyre compressor to put air in the tyre twice a day for the next few days!

Still, at least the rear tyres will match the fronts to keep some people happy... the N rated tyre purists will still be mad though

Didn’t you get a can of Porsche tyre weld in the frunk??? Blimey, that’s not very high spec 🤣🤣

I do have one... but don't want to use it in case I get a fussy buyer ;) So used the cheaper version lol

You can't have it both ways - it can't push air in one side and suck it out of the other.

I think the drivers side one is a vent that the fan blows hot air out of.

A LHD car would be better because your ear would hear the intake better. Can't believe Porsche didn't alter the whole design for RHD cars. Cheapskates.

You can... I did not say it would "push air in", the engine intake will be sucking air in on the N/S one... there is no induction on the off side so as the air flow goes past it at speed, it will naturally draw the hot air out the engine bay.... its almost like these designers kmow what they are doing

Anyone know the reason why, certainly on the 987 Boxster that although each side of the car has a side vent fitted although it’s actually only the OS that takes in air, where the NS is blanked off?

The N/S one is the air intake, the O/S one is there as the airflow going past it will help draw hot air out the engine bay whilst on the move. They both serve a purpose
