  1. This topic seems to have stirred some emotion in here! This is Porsches explanation of the function. This is not just ESP.

My feedback would be that this is essentially an extra nanny to help get the car from a to b more quickly. It makes the car easier to drive quickly on the road support at turn in and mid corner before you apply power out. It's not overly intrusive but you can feel it push the car on turn in and tuck your line in.

The downside is that it takes away an aspect of driving the car, it's a bit like a more advanced version of left foot braking as you begin to turn in.

On track I can't confirm but I think it might be too much and cook your rear brakes, perhaps a different driving mode can reduce its impact.

The lack of a Porsche LSD doesn't impact this as they serve different functions. I think the PTV plus option which was never available on the 981 platform brings an e diff into play but more research required.

I'm fairly sure I don't have the PTV option, however I am VERY sure the car grabs rear brakes when it thinks you are driving outside of its comfort zone.

Adding more of the above does not seem like a benefit to me...but I guess it's good click bait for your channel.

I'm sure you can watch and see if you are right or not.

  3. Short trip taking the back way to the shop, car feels quite different, it's as they advertise you feel the car tuck in as soon you turn in, quite a strange sensation, maybe more false feeling than I was expecting but it's quite good at holding its line when pushed past what is normally the limit of grip on a tight roundabout or something. Going to take some getting used to the turn in is more aggressive now, less input required than before.

No, I am saying a slipper would be a noticeable improvement on a Boxster, or indeed any car.

I am disagreeing with your statement that the car doesn't have enough power to warrant one.

There are different styles of LSDs and some of these can also be set up for completely different characteristics too. Mechanical Vs Clutch , 2 way 3 way etc. etc.

The PTV you mention is just a part of the PSM that I thought all P cars had.  I would not refer grabbing extra brakes as a differential - More like; intrusive nanny computers that will cause more accidents as drivers are more likely to lift-off, or over correct.

It does on most cars I agree with you, it was useful on my s2000 with even less horses/torque and m3s of old but the 981 always surprises me with the level of traction it has, and when it's wet it's reasonably easy to slide because it is so well balanced with a nice power delivery.

The PTV I mentioned above is torque vectoring on corner entry off throttle. I'm yet to test it but it's quite a neat trick on the Golf R, downside being the computer is making you look like a better driver than you really are.

I disagree.  An LSD makes a noticeable difference on any car that's being driven enthusiastically.

I've had FWD and RWD cars with slippers and also driven the same model without.  A lot depends on the type of slipper and then how it is set up.

So you are saying then that lack of an LSD on a Boxster is a significant problem?

It's not, and if it was the Boxster might have been called up on it a few times, which it hasn't .

Is PTV an e-diff / software thing only?,

I assumed PTV was a mechanical diff.

Porsche torque vectoring is simply software to brake the individual rear wheel to help it around on corner entry and my Golf R uses the same technology.

The PTV option also happens to come with a mechanical LSD for improved traction on corner exit but it's s not a significant problem on a mid engined car with this level of power and torque and they don't rely on one another.

  7. Enabled PTV with software yesterday but it was raining all day so haven't tested, will report back after a test. Just like the old rain sensor mod it just needs turning on 🤯.

My rear discs are getting on a bit now so this should clean them up before replacing!

  8. You can manually adjust the height from standstill. I can't remember if you can control the height by holding the button down at lower speeds but generally when driving it is either up or down, it goes up automatically at 120km/h.

It's possible to programme it with software, I have the Spyder ducktail on mine so have set it to behave like the Spyder with it coming up halfway around 90km/h. It's also in that position if I press the button which looks much better on my car without the Spyder humps. Like so

It lifts to full height above 120 km/h.

Where did you get the second hand module, just had a quick look in eBay, no Porsche on there but the VW unit looks suspiciously similar.....

No won't work has to be the Porsche one.

  10. Sorry I'm confused, what has a 987 pdk box got to do with your issue?

Why not just check the part number and any markings /stickers on it to confirm the production date. Does the box they apparently replaced look clean or well used?

  11. When I did it I fitted a front camera, but remember I had the Joyeauto system which supplies power for the cameras. It's all decommissioned now since I fitted PCM4.

I don't really understand why anyone bothers with them to be honest, quite expensive and labour intensive when parking sensors more than do the job and in poor weather they are a waste of time.

So my car has Bose.  Can I still upgrade all these goodies in mine - door speakers etc - what about the amp/s?

You could get an adapter to upgrade the Bose amp but I think the speakers are the weakest link.

  13. I've found some plug and play mids and tried them out tonight, really good bigger impact than the tweeters for me, I think the centre speaker is too overwhelming for the tweeters so you don't get the full effect in my car. Considering disconnecting the centre speaker.

Anyway, Eton does BMW upgrade kits and Porsche is essentially using the same or very similar kit so these slot right into the doors.  I had to trim a piece of the connector plug ever so slightly but honestly no big deal so all fully reversible.

The Eton UG B100 are the ones I used. 👌
