Hi

It took me about 30 mins and that was with the gearbox out of the car and the AOS in clear view.

Berni

Probably been done before and had a jubilee clip on the bottom hose, even so 20 mins is impressive,( took me that long once to get the plug off the rear Bose speaker!!!

Hi

Made up and fitted a new hood rope, fitted spoiler, put rear carpets back in, tightened up a few bolts, got steering wheel totally straight, checked toe settings with trackrite, fitted front numberplate, drove car!

By the way, these are the rear parking sensors integrated into the numberplate holder. Or at least it would be a picture of, but I have used up all of my quota.

Use Imgur or similar hosting site and then paste the sharing link for forums into your posts and magically pictures will appear as amny ad as often you you want, you just have to upload them to a private post on the image sharing site.....  I got caught out be the low direct hosting data allowance on the forum when I first started.

You make it sound easy. So many report it as a pig of a job especially removing and re-attaching one particular hose. Is there a trick to it?

I was also very concerned after reading a lot of 'horror story' posts and looking some YT videos for taking especially the lower pipe off from the side of the AOS.

What helped me, was that I de-attached the oil filler tube and pushed it towards the throttle body. This gave me room to FIRST remove the lower pipe from AOS by pressing the pipe connection only from the top with one hand's finger and wiggling the pipe out with another hand. Then  removed the pipe from AOS to intake. These while the AOS was tightly in the engine block.

Also the pushed on side oil filler pipe gave easy access to the two bolts to release the AOS with very small ratchet. As the bolts came loose, I FIRST pulled the AOS on side towards the rear wheel to loosen out the lower horizontal connection to the block. Then proceeded to pull up the AOS with rather plenty of force same time being careful not to pull on any cables nor vacuum lines that run right next to the AOS. This forced the lower flexible oil return rubber hose under the AOS to give in and release the AOS from the block (I was prepared to break the hose since new one was already ordered).

Removal of the AOS I did completely from above the engine, while car was on the ground.

Installation was pretty much same in reverse order with following steps, but part of the time the car was jacked up (with support stand also installed) and rear wheel removed:

Installed to the bottom of AOS the fexible rubber hose with metal clip on top. Bottom of the hose I purchased a clip from Porsche (2,29€) with blue loop to pull off after the part is installed in to exactly correct position - this installation I was very concerned of messing up...

To get the AOS going in, the bottom flexible hose attached with the blue clip, I lowered the AOS to connect the lower horizontal AOS connection to the block, but did not push it in yet. Checked from underneath the car and the flexible rubber hose with blue clip was already almost correctly in place. Pushed the AOS lower end to the block so that the bolts locations would also align and checked the blue clip hose from uner the car again - now it was exacly where it should be! Next I installed the two bolts in place and tightened those from below the car (very small ratchet). Checked the blue clip location with the flexible hose to make sure it is just right and removed the clip - went spot on in to right place!

Now I re-installed the wheel and lowered the car down. To attache the plastic hoses on the side of the AOS was same like to remove those from the top of the car. Lower hose connection I pressed with one hand's finger from top while wiggiling the hose in place with other hand. Top hose was just a clip on by pushing it in, no need to press anything (probably same would do with the lower hose as well...). Connected the oil return hose and secured it in place.

To remove/install the oil return hose and remove the flexible short hose attached under the AOS from the block, I used the hose clip tool that has a remote handle with locking mechanism and the actual crimping end can be placed in rather small places.

I'd assume these plastic hoses removal and install to be relateively easy at least partly, since weather has been real nice and warm 25 degrees Centigrades keeping the hoses flexible.

Hopefully this was helpful :)

20mins!! It takes me that long to support the car and get the engine cover off!

I'm assuming yours is a later model that bolts on to the top and not the earlier style that bolts to the side of the block. I'm a reasonably competent diy mechanic and it still took me several hours fumbling through the rear wheel  well with limited access.

It was not thant bad as I had read and also seen on YT videos. On previous post I wrote how I managed it on my 2001 model 2.7 with Manual transmission.

I replaced the Upper and Lower belt rollers and the Tension roller along with a power steering hose.

I was originally getting into the front of the engine to replace a leaking power steering hose and upon removal of the drive belt I found that all the rollers had about 2 or 3 mm of wobble in them!  I had replaced the drive belt a year ago and did not notice any wobble in the rollers at that time.  There was no visual sign that the bearings in the rollers were worn.  When the belt was on and the engine was running everything looked like it was rolling smoothly and there were no odd noises coming from the rollers. I'm relieved that I caught the wobbly rollers before one of them failed while I was driving.   Getting the power steering hose out proved to be a bit of work (4 hours), but replacing the rollers was a simple 30 min job!  My car has about 108,000. miles on it, the belt rollers I removed looked to be the originals.

Took a trip to see Lee at Cotswold Porsche Specialists, cracking weather for the drive.

My first trip to see Lee and his gang and I have to say what a top guy, I had new BREMBO front discs and pads at a cracking price - Wheel alignment done which has thrown up a potential  RHF Control Arm (tuning fork) requirement (its knocking) so back again tomorrow for that to be done, see if we can figure out why the car wants to wander left despite the wheel alignment being 100% in the green! The car feels 100% better already, prior to the visit at motorway speeds the handling was a bit  wooly and on the country roads it felt like gravel on every corner - on the way home wow it feels so much better and firmly planted  - oh and The Chow Shed is open, takeaway only but there's a bench outside!

Road camber.  It took me some time to work it out and then when I went to France and it wandered to the right as the crown of the road goes the other way when you drive on the right...  Should only be a small amount of pressure on the steering wheel to keep it straight, if it needs lots of input get the geo rechecked.

Hi

Washed the 986 for the first time and fitted the console delete kit.

I so much prefer the interior now. Almost worth the ridiculous amount of money it cost.

Took the car for a late fast spin. Got close to the red line a few times. Getting to know the car a bit. I’m quite impressed with the engine. The steering less so. I find it very light. ESP compared to my 993.

Yeah it’s not camber - that’s all ruled out had geo done twice. I’m getting a sore right hand from holding the right hand side of the wheel all the time 😂😂 hopefully sorted today.

@Cheddar Bob I’m here for at least the next hour or so, hoping the cafe opens as there’s no sign of anyone. If you come down I’ll buy you a brew if it’s open!

Camber on the road, not on the car; Lee nor anyone else can adjust that...  Could be uneven tyre wear across the tread if the geo was out by a lot for a long time and I'm assuming both tyres are the same age and tread depth wear.

If you've had a recent geo and it was out then the tyres will have worn to the old geo. The tyres will scrub into the new geo but might take some time to get there.

Hi

I have one headlight that looks new and one cloudy one. So yesterday was a lot of sanding. Today will be polishing. Does anyone know which PPF film will work well on them?

Tks

Hi,

I bought some clear spray. The PPF I could see on ebay and Amazon was only 30cm wide.

Had mine in to CPS today for a full service, MOT and 4 wheel alignment following the B6 struts being replaced a couple of weeks ago. Excellent service once again from @CotswoldPS and the car is feeling as good as I was hoping it would.

Also ran in to @F1HA who had been there most of the day with his lovely Black/Red interior 981S. Pleasure to meet you, and I'll be sure to tag you into a South Wales run once we get one organised :thumbsup_still:

Lovely meeting you too @Bluepork03. Great chatting with an enthusiast. Thanks, look forward to a run out with you guys.
Great service from @CotswoldPS. A full on day for them with a major service, plugs, brake fluid, transmission oil, belt etc. I supplied the parts/fluids. They also checked my ipd plenum install which was all good apparently.
Felt great on the way home to mid wales. Had the roads to myself from Monmouth across. Great blast.

Last year I replaced the brake pipes that run down the near side With conifer but the pipe that runs from the mid connection to the rear near side wheel I didn’t get quite right and I couldn’t get the undertray to completely fit. This has annoyed me for the past few months  so I tried to re bend it but it was easier to replace the whole pipe which is now perfect!

Re bled the brakes washed it and it’s ready to go!
