What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

I bought and fitted a three spoke wheel to replace my 4 spoke.  It's in immaculate condition and I only paid £300, bit of a deal as I had previously bought a roof off the same guy.

I used to have a 3 spoke on my old 986 from 13 years ago, only had the 4 spoke on my 911 from 6 years ago.  I had forgotten what a difference it makes, it feels so much nicer to drive now.  Odd how such a little thing can make such a big difference.

Maybe try this. I redone a 3 spoke. Flat bottom. Padded out and lower grip points. It really is a transformation when driving a bit hard. I love it. 🤙

Had new rear PVC screen fitted last week , good job £220.00

Excellent price.  Can you share who did it?  I know getting the correct equivalent vinyl material is difficult as the OE material is no longer made.  The nearest replacement come from a Netherlands based manufacturer I believe.

All about the touch points lads, wheel and gear stick make such a difference , I just fitted a GT4 alcantara paddle wheel to my 996 and feels like a new car 🎉🎉🎉

I've read some ads from people who mention new material also.  More so on 996 convertibles.  Is this a big / expensive job or is it not that bad?

You can only get the newer material, not the old one, but some trimmers use a vinyl from marine applications.  Cost for me 3 years ago was £235.  @rederic seems to have got a very good price hence the question of who did it.  General guide would be £250 to £300 currently.

Sorry no I meant the fabric stuff - not the clear screen.

most use original frame, some will carry over roof lining , if fitted.

Best mod ever for my old 986 was the new roof with heated glass from Car Hood Warehouse, especially as blue facelift glass hoods are so rare 2nd hand.

Personally I'm not a fan of the flat bottom or shaped wheels. Slim round and just the right diameter is where it's at for me. I generally find most cars have the wheel too fat.

Horses for courses on all these things. I have the original wheel if the next guardian wants that option. 🤙

Started work on swapping the door cards an door looms to fit door speakers.  First step was swapping out the original speakers from two door speaker boxes and replaced with a pair of Pioneer TS G1331i speakers and 4ohm 25W resistors so when fitted in parallel with the dash speakers the head unit will still see 4 ohms on the front channel.

Started removing the passenger door card to start on the loom swap (I found two door looms that have both speaker and door light on the looms and the replacement door cards have the lights, so why not... and found the bottom edge of the door carpet was wet.  Some moisture inside the door behind the membrane, but non in front - Confused.  Anyway peeled back the membrane around the door except the airbag section and unplugged the electric mirror socket, then the rain came down and I scrambled to pack up...   To Be Continued, hopefully tomorrow with the aim to get the driver's side as far, then disconnect the battery so I can remove the loom after disconnecting the airbags.

Booked in at Cotswold Porsche Specialist for new clutch, IMS and RMS... My earlier Xmas prezzie to myself...ahead of a planned long tour of the Alps next year...

Out of interest are you doing the IMS 'whilst they are in there' or do you have reason to believe it needs doing?  I hope you are not paying out for a costly ceramic or oil fed kit without good grounds and research into the issue which is far less common that would appear to be the case from the reporting, particularly from across the pond (bad news travels well and echoes a lot).  Like-for-like replacement with the same ball bearing or if you really want, a needle bearing of the same size.  Also, what year is you car?

While I'm , or rather they, are in there.  Nothing special and the extra cost is marginal.

I've done all the reading... if nothing else it makes the car more saleable if I decide to upgrade next year..

mine is May 94 986S..

the clutch needs doing as the fingers are very creaky and it slips a bit on fast starts..

@greenman986s I will have you a bet it is not a May 94 986S ! suspect you have a typo there.

I get the while you are in there, crack on , but there have been so many reported incidents that prior to the IMS being replaced all was good and then new bearing being installed…..doom!!

May '04 registration is perfectly possible, would indicate a Feb or March build date.  I there are some 986s on 54 plates so registered after 1st September 2004.  987 production started in volume in August 2004 with the '05 model year.

@1/2 cwt, the OP says 94 not 04.
