WOW! Just caught up with this thread as it's resurfaced.

I have experience of both poor OPC service and falling out of love with a Porsche :o (the experiences are not related)

I'll post up later, but in the meantime so sorry to hear of your bad experience and moving on with the Boxster. No doubt the nightmare buying expereince didn't help but if it isn't right for you, then no point in persevering, bite the bullet and cut your losses.

No doubt you want a hassle free in moving the car on given the stress to date, but may be worth asking an OPC or speciliast dealer for a price - Yorkshire Classic Porsche are very good and even offer a sale or return service at a sensible price.

The warranty is transferable, but only to an indiviual not a dealer.

You never read the famous Yorkshire classic porsche thread on 911uk then, I would not recommend after hearing and reading that.

Wbac price not too bad, be a nice private buy for someone with the warranty

I have only just read this thread also and you have my sympathy for what has happened. Basically just confirms to me that my opinion in the OPC versus Indie debate is the correct one, find a good indie and as long as they stay in that ownership they remain good. Staff at OPCs come and go and vary in quality.

Anyway sorry to go "off topic", I am sure no one on here, despite their love of Boxsters, would wish you anything but the very best with whatever you decide to buy next, I'm also sure we would all like to know what that turns out to be!

Amazingly I have just received an email from Porsche Aberdeen asking if I want to sell it back!! Makes you wonder are they monitoring the forum?

Interesting!

Are they offering a reasonable amount?  It looks so shiny and scratch free now they will easily sell it again!

Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling.

Just to add my 2p worth :) I kinda fell out of love with mine after a couple of months (for various reasons) I stuck with it and love it now. So much so I bought a cheap run around for the commute and now its even better experience getting in the Porsche at the weekend or on a nice sunny evening. Plus can justify doing longer trips away in it.

What actually is it that you dont like? I would imagine an Evora would be even more of a let down. I have thought about an Evora purchase myself but its less practical than the Boxster, not really any faster, not as well made and you would be swapping one of the best 6 pot engines ever made with one from a Toyoto Camry...

Whats the spec on your car? I cannot find it anywhere. I thought it was an S if so £28645 is CHEAP and you should advertise it rather than WBAC it for £33k and see what bites you get. If its a non S then yes pretty good price from WBAC.

I imagine Aberdeen would move it on really quickly so I would be holding out to get almost all of your money back as its been such a poor experience buying through them!

Good luck with whatever you decide though.

Glad you've got the car back, but just like a mother not having contact with her baby, you could suffer post retail depression if you don't go and do some bonding.

Looks like @Araf called it :(

Perhaps they have realised that its still in their name and they can market it as having one less owner than it has:lol:. Mind you, the price of oil has fallen again and money must be getting tight in EGPD so they may not offer as much as they should.

I have to say that now its sorted and with that paintwork it should sell quickly. It would be a real shame to sell it to WBAC and I would be interested to know if they try to chip you on the price because the ashtray's full or something.

Here's a left-field suggestion:  the 981 is too refined and "remote", whereas the Evora is too raw.  How about a manual 987.1 or (even better) a 987.2?

Or a 986 with a V6 Audi engine:P

So as this thread has been dominated by woes of bad OPC experiences, I'll add mine.

The first one was where I bought the current 987. To be fair, the experience was mixed and the lady who sold me the car went out of her way to put things right and even collected and returned the car personally (a 130 mile round trip), but not clever being sold a car as having 1 previous owner when it had actually had 5! Now I know that 5 careful owners is better than 1 bad one but how did they get that so wrong!? Then there was a litany of other issues, all fairly minor and they put them right, but not what you expect from a prestige marque after the claimed 111 point check.

The other one was being overcharged £450 for a major service. When I queried the bill with the service girl on the day she assured me that everything was correct and looked at me as if to say "this is Porsche you know". It was only when I called the following week to get them to double check it as it seemed totally OTT to me that they held their hands up and refunded the difference. To add insult to injury, no courtesy car was provided as arranged.

There has also been mention of other major dealers so here's another one for you. This time Mini. We were pretty much sold on a Cooper S but it was pre registered with only 16 miles on the clock and they didn't really want it driving so offered an identical car for my wife to drive for an afternoon. The only thing she had ruled out during the sales process was automatic and, you guessed it, they provided an automatic for the extended test drive! After a lot of waiting around and fobbing off, they finally found a manual of similar spec. Lots of inefficiencies that I won't bore you with and then it came to handover day and my wife was greeted by the sales team and there was the car ready to drive away with a big red bow around it....but....as she was about to get in, she noticed that the roof was a different colour.....oh, and the wheels were a different colour :o She stepped back, walked around it, definitely the wrong car yet it had the correct registration plate on  A big embarrassment to the sales team and yet more waiting around while they went to find the right car. It was still in the valeting bay so she was given a courtesy car while they finished the preparation and delivered the car later that day.

That's not the end of this one. One week down the line and the "replace battery" warning light comes on, so the car is back with Mini having that fixed. But again, very poor customer service in the way they've dealt with it. If it hadn't been for the amazing deal on an effectively brand new car (with a knackered battery!), we would have walked away a long time ago.

But back to Porsche, after my experiences I would never buy an "approved" car from them again. The illusion of a near perfect used car at an inflated price tag with a commitment to then pay Porsche prices for servicing for 2 years is a nonsense (yes, I fell for the marketing hype too!). All my non-service work and intermediate servicing (I don't believe in "long live" service intervals) goes to Revolution. My next purchase will avoid the approved route - I'd rather pay an independent specialist to give an assessment and adjust the price accordingly for any remedial work needed and then use the indy for all servicing, etc at a sensible price.

Good idea :)

Many of us are mono-minded, but try a 987.2 manual :)   A bit more raw than a 981, not as much as a 986 (noting that the latter are already 12 years old...)

But we knew I was further left than you ;)

You know the most satisfying cars I've ever owned have been Defenders.... I had two and each was the longest owned cars I've ever had. It was only running costs (fuel I mean, everything else was dirt cheap and blood excellent depreciation) that made me relent and go main stream with my cars. Maybe I need to reinvestigate the Defender idea. There's a new one due next year (I think) so maybe that'll be worth a look. Now that's left field!

What I liked about Defenders was practicality, go anywhere-ness, fit in anywhere-ness, excellent driving position which, on country lanes where you could see over the hedges, meant you could often hustle along faster than a low sports car (the Lotus was terrible on country lanes 'cause you couldn't see what was ahead). I loved the classless thing about them as well even though, I admit, I am a bit of a snob.
