I did the same as Chris M8 A4 Stainless with spring washers because I had some. Been apart again since and no problems. I could just about make out the makings on some of the exhaust bolts (maybe the ones in the heads). They are nothing special high tensile or anything so shouldn’t matter too much what you use. Unless you have a TVR then I recon Nordlock ones are the answer.

This is another method (for me to work and back).

What a pita welded in studs bodge holding well so far

You can see quite clearly how the studs are held with just one tack.

This is how I got them out.

Pressing out exhaust studs

Easy. Getting the manifold to the vice however 😡😭 Only snapped 2 in the cylinder heads 👍

That looks like mine at the moment. Mine are home made (bodged) with bolts and bent washers but they have been on the car for 2 years and past 2 MOT's so not too bad. Will get around to a proper job sometime...

Fetch it round Dave , I can hot axe them out in no time  and put new bolts in, just get two new gaskets and bolts, as you know I'm just down the road from you

I wouldn't take it too badly chum IIRC even Revolution use a specialist company to remove them. I wonder if that's why he's called Rusty :)

Mates dads hobby was collecting Stationary Engines, they seem to have loads of brass fasteners.

no we don't ya bugger!!

Following this with interest as my exhaust bolts have seen better days...

I’ve read that you need go careful with hammering them out as the vibration can damage the lambda probes.

@bally4563

Hi Mick,

Cant PM you but...

I am now in possession of a set of gaskets and stainless nuts/bolts so can go ahead with stud removal at your convenience. I am retired so can do just about any time given a bit of warning. Not sure what your garage situation is but might need to wait for a weather window? As I said the car has been like this for 2 years so absolutely no rush just let me know....
