Rav
All - I need your help please. I am taking my beloved Alpina for paint in the first week of December. I have agreed a deal with the spray shop that he will spray the centre console of my Boxster whilst there. The catch is that I have to take it out of the car and replace once painted. Is there a guide or video that can be vouched for to help me get the console out of my car? I neayy need a step by step guide so i can work on this over the evenings to get it out whilst the car is hibernating in my garage. I have decided to be bold and have it painted Viola Metallic. I hope that it will not make the interior too dark... Thanks

Christopher2110
Half hour job tops. Very easy. Just be gentle and patient rather than yanking it out. Plenty of videos out there like the one posted above
½cwt
Mind the cable to the microswitch on the storage box, don't yank the console out before you disconnect it.

jonogt6
Mind the leather on the handbrake....the bottom edge of the console is like a razor.Don't make the mistake i did and cut a big chunk in to it when you pull the console out!🙄

allatsea
I always take the seats out first, not absolutely necessary but makes it much easier imho and will ensure that you don't damage the new paint work when you replace. Think there are some Torx head screws in there as well (dependant on how many times it's been taken apart and put back together and by whom....) Rav
Thanks all. I managed to remove this in about an hour this afternoon. A nice Sunday job actually, some time alone in the garage. The video was helpful, except that on his car the air con controls are in the dash. As I have a double DIN, the controls are down in front of the gear lever. So much trim comes off, its scary and I was careful not to damage anything. As it was: You can see that the paint has bubbled - poor spraying previously allowing water to remain in paint under the laquer. During the removal: I had to remove the 'T' piece in front of the gear lever to remove the console. My handbrake is a "MOT pass" 3 clicks! A closeup look at the paint: It will be going off for paint - Viola Metallic on hte 7th December. I look forward to putting this back together and seeing how it looks.

myfirstboxster
I found it easier to take all the adjustment off the handbrake and raise the lever as high as possible , other than that just take your time and don't forget the wiring connections to the cubby lock and handbrake switch , the wires snap very easily 😠

Had my console out at least 4 times while I modified it. Worked out that having the handbrake up as high as you can makes refitting and removal so much easier, wouldn't do it any other way now. Rav
Hi All. Really bored during lockdown and struggling to stay happy. I thought that fitting the centre console might lift my spirits, but i got stuck at the first hurdle. Please can I ask how to loosen off the handbrake to allow me to get the console over the top? I cant work out how i even took it off as there is no chance this is going back on with out loosening the handbrake. I can see the semi circle with two nuts on the end and am guessing that loosening these will do it, but thought to check with the 'gang' first, before my axle falls out!
