Desiro
Does anyone use the OPC for MOT tests? My warranty runs out in June, so thought it may be worthwhile, if they pick anything up on the MOT. Could also have the PSE fitted at the same time, depending on cost.
Andy Mac
@Desiro worth doing at an OPC if they do their own MOTs (loan car & may highlight any issues spotted - re warranty). But a lot of OPCs farm them out to local places, ie not done on site.
BrianJ
I've never found an OPC that does their own.

iborguk
Cambridge (Harston) do their own (they share a MOT ramp with the Aston dealership next door) . Had a couple done there.
Menoporsche
Will you renew the warranty? I wonder if that would have any bearing on your decision.
Desiro
Thanks for the answers, I did think the MOT might not be carried out on site. I suppose it still makes sense to have it done at an OPC in case they find anything covered by the warranty, which expires in July. My nearest OPC is Leeds, which is part of the JCT600 group, although I can use Sheffield, when I visit mum, so I'll check who does MOT in house. @MenoporscheNo I don't think I will renew the warranty, unless they are still doing it without the 111 point check, then I may be swayed. Still mulling over the £2325 +VAT for some aural pleasure!

They are JCT600 and have a Merc JCT600 garage next door to them. They told me when I asked that they use the Merc garages MOT bay but Porsche Techs do the MOTs, verified when I checked my dashcam after the first one. 13 minutes ago, Desiro said: No I don't think I will renew the warranty, unless they are still doing it without the 111 point check, then I may be swayed. Mines up in July, and when I checked a month or so back they were still doing the renewals without the 111 point check. Just drop you preferred service member of staff an email they will tell you. 10 minutes ago, Desiro said: Still mulling over the £2325 +VAT for some aural pleasure! Worth every single penny! The week I had mine without it while they ordered it in was, as someone else described recently, like driving a tesla, so quiet. Would never have one without it. I had a new MOT via them a few weeks ago and specifically asked if they did them on-site.

GTSMarky
Make sure you get the MOT paperwork to show any advisories. Silverstone OPC farmed out the first MOT for my car and said it was fine. Load of tosh as actually the advisory notice was damaged tyres which they conveniently didn't think I needed to know. I only found this our retrospectively when i insisted on having the paperwork a while later. Needless to say I made damn sure they funded the rubber! I had just bought it and this was a few years ago, but that set the lack of trust theme up for me which for sure with them is the right opinion to have given their behaviour thereafter.. That was very naughty and something you might expect from a back street garage, not Silverstone OPC!

GTSMarky
Should add that my lovely BGTS is sublime, so the car itself is ace!
huytonman
I would shop around for the PSE, admittedly its 4 years since I had mine retrofitted by an OPC but it was closer to £1300. I did get a variety of quotes for the work, well worth it though. Keith

One thing I would mention is the most a garage can charge for a MOT is £54.85 Thats the maximum, they don’t need to and that’s why the likes of Formula1 etc do deals at half that price etc, In general the OPC will charge as much as they can so will be £54.85. I only decided to use the OPC as I couldn’t stand watching (through the viewing window) my local MOT centre gorillas getting in my car with oily hands & overalls on and pushing all the knobs & switches etc with no respect for cleanliness ”The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) also sets the maximum fee that can be charged for vehicles. In 2018, the maximum fee for a car is £54.
Desiro
I expected them to max out on price, but like you say the local tester looks like Stig of the dump and I don't want him thumbing my precious toy. OPC also want me to leave the car all day, which I'm not prepared to do, so if we can't agree a convenient day/time then indie it will be.
