Blades on coloured key keep chipping

I guess this for info more than anything, although some questions/thoughts.

I picked up my new GTS 4 (Racing yellow) at the end of April this year and forked out a silly sum to get the coloured key blades to match.

When I picked it up, the blades on the 'main' key (the one in the leather pouch) were already chipped. Dealer replaced them no problem, although there was a bit of a wait for them...

However, I've only used the car a few times since the replacement blades and these are chipped again already.

A few things about this:

I'm worried I have chips of paint rattling around in the ignition

For the extra I paid for this it's a pretty poor do.

Should I go back to the dealer, I have no way to prove I haven't abused them at all, so it would be more a case of flagging that these are a bit cr*p, especially for the money.

Is this something people know anyway and I've been a dope paying extra?

Plenty of eBay and Amazon hits on those in differing colours.

I was just checking the model dates, I'm not sure they'd fit, but I'm going to have a trawl around and see what I can find.

Feel free to post an imgur/Flickr photo link of the current fob if that helps.

Lynn bought me those when I got the 718, despite me telling her not to. Had mine almost 3 years and can't recall any chipping. I sold them on here iirc.

Oh well, either I've been unlucky, or you were lucky

Thank you! I see there's a review from a French chap who also mentions the paint flaking on the Porsche originals!

Think I'm right in saying that's the same shape as the 981 key fob as well ?

981 is the same, I arsed around painting some, wrapped others then succumbed and just paid £10 ish off ebay....

They last long enough to be replaced every 12 months or so at ebay prices :)

Thanks for the info, I agree ebay is the way to go.

Has this issue with the Macan back in 2016.  It’s usually wear from putting the key into the ignition.  They are beautifully painted from factory but a waste of money.  The cheap eBay ones are usually coloured plastic so don’t wear through.  I’ve still got a pink set if you fancy them.

and no the Macan wasn’t pink…
