According to one article about 20 to 30 Porsche boxes a year disappear from our roads and end up on the race  track ...

There are a lot now in the Porsche Club championship - and that’s before the dealers’ cars have joined - and they’re appearing in other non-Porsche series too like 750MC Roadsports and CSCC Modern Classics.

Hells bells, that's twice as much as I paid for a 2000 S with similar mileage a couple of weeks ago. That's got better options and a nicer history, but not nearly £7k worth.

Blimey!

Same colour scheme as mine, similar fat file of service records, similar IMS work and has better options but is a pre facelift 2002 with 101k on the clock.

Was thinking of getting rid of mine not so long since. Think I’ll Hang on.

And how is your 986S doing?

Has it gone up in value too? (i.e. all back together and running well)

Fingers-crossed. We'd love to hear your updates...

Cheers, Baggers.

My vote would be for keeping it.  Fantastic cars - especially on days like today with the hood down. If prices are beginning to creap up, all the better!

Notice this is now deposit taken anyone remember what it was originally up for? My view would be to keep, if you can keep on top of stuff  that needs doing you'll always have a top quality sports convertible. And personally I think a 986 in top condition has the look to become a future classic

Blimey that is strong money! Thanks.

Wow, I feel less silly about my purchase now. I bought a 2004 Seal Grey 3.2 S, 64000 miles with FPSH via a forum member last year for £9995.

So far she's only cost me a water pump, brake switch and some light bulbs plus the obligatory mid service-interval oil change. I also managed to find a Seal Grey HardTop for a relative bargain which polished up very nicely indeed.

I keep telling the Mrs that I'm holiding onto this one after getting burned selling a Z3M Coupe just before the prices rocketed. I'm standing by that :D

I'll find myself in a 986 one day but it won't be for the investment potential. So far I've missed out on that "classic" experience other than short rides courtesy of some forum friends and will have to scratch that 986 itch sooner rather than later.

As for how prices are moving, as a regular visitor to the likes of autotrader and pistonheads classifieds I can't say that there is any strong upward movement as yet, other than the usual summer uplift. If and when values do start to climb, which I think they will, I can't imagine that they will approach the dizzy heights that 964s and 993s have reached in recent times.

It goes without saying that those with lower mileage, full Porsche or specialist service history, and the special editions will command higher prices and hold stronger long term values.

To be honest, cars are never investments anyway. Even if they were going up £5k per year, after fuel and maintenance alone you'd barely break even on a well used car.

It's nice to know they're holding their value, though!

Whilst this will be true of any 2 seater Porsche (store it for long enough in temp controlled warehouse).  I don't see the point for 99% of owners. Cars should be driven and enjoyed. There I said it .

Prices will only go up when people decide they'd rather own a Boxster 986 rather than a 987 or later models etc. Once that sense of nostalgia kicks in after time it's hard to stop the price increases.. Added price value creats a bit more desire to own one too imo. Old owners that loved them but couldn't afford to run them as youngster will also come back too

84,000 miles and low mileage is a bit of an oxymoron isn't it?

Let's face it, if any of us are buying our 986 with the primary focus being investment potential then 1) you wouldn't buy the car you have now 2) your maths is surely bad as the amount you will have undoubtedly reinvested in servicing and parts etc will outstrip any return.

i do agree with you that all money spent on my car in the years to come will outstrip any return, but, running costs are very rarely recouped.

if i sell my car in a few years for more money then i will be one happy person, most cars are sold at a loss. i do think these cars will go up and even if its only a little its still a plus.

im not in anyway thinking these cars will do what aircooled have, but its still nice to have a car that you can drive in the knowledge that its not going down in price.

ps. when i said 84000 and low mileage, i did mean low mileage for the age of my car.... sorry if you misunderstood.
