What have YOU done to your 987 today

Yep the aluminium castings are the same Front and back but the centre bushes are different on the front from memory. If you look at my other posts you might find one where I had the nightmare of finding the right ones. They will fit on the back and might actually fit in the front but theoretically I think they modded the fronts with sturdier centre bushes. I think I worked out that they were the same front and back as the new ones you have in the picture on a 986. The originals on mine had the same 986 part numbers cast in which was a bit misleading when you check what it should have in the PET. The fronts look the same as the originals you have in your picture. Oh yeah and they have the big washers either side of the centre bushes.

Its a bit of a minefield sometimes. What year model is your car exactly ?

Finally managed to give the Boxster a half decent wash, and cleaned inside, for the first time in ages.  I don't think the way I do it can't be described as "detailing", it was just a wash with Autoglym car shampoo, then vac the carpets and used Autoglym vinyl care on the plastics (including under the frunk, which probably amused any neighbours watching...) but it felt so good to give the car a bit of TLC.  It's not quite perfect, but it's close enough for me, and I reckon the old girl does scrub up nicely:

I also finally got round to fitting the new centre caps that I bought from ebay months ago (all pointing towards the tyre valves, obviously!):

Interestingly, the new ones have got twice as many tags on the back compared to the existing ones that were fitted:

And one last photo after I was finished, because.... er.... well, I don't really need an excuse, do I...?

And before anyone says it, no, I haven't got any tyre dressing.........

Should be the same as mine then. It is an 06 plate 987.1 Dean knows his stuff. Local to me if you need any help with a courier. Had the same problem with GSF with lamda sensors but it was about 6 Months after I bought them that I tried to fit them.

Here you go

Yes mate, I knew that was going to get flagged up on here, but in my defence... I don't care

To be honest, I'm surprised nobody pulled me up on that rusty brake disc...

Sounds super cheap for a new rad? What brand was it?

Without looking through my invoices I'm not sure , but the quality is excellent,

Check AutoDoc  on line site.

Managed to get all 8 brake bleed nipples freed off. Last year I replaced all 4 discs and pads and planned to change the brake fluid but found that 3 nipples were seized and copious quantities of WD40 didn’t seem to make any difference. Not wanting to have the problem of severed nipples (ouch!) I put the wheels back on and thought I’d give the job to a specialist.
Anyway, I never got around to booking it in so I had another go yesterday and managed to shift all 8. I guess the lesson is that sometimes WD40 does work but needs several days/weeks/months to really soak in!

The prices on AUTODOC seem to range from very low to very high.
Wasn’t sure if it was a case of higher price = better quality??

From having bought previously and paid £50+ Off eBay I can see no difference in quality, well finished and enamelling well done, pays your money and takes your chance methinks, the only difference I could see at the price point new seals were not included.

Just removed nearside coffin arm as it was creaking quite badly at very low speed on lock and sometimes while just giving forward slowly.

I noticed that it has been replaced before and is a pattern part. Will try and source an original if at all possible.

in the last couple of weeks, I replaced the gearchange mechanism and the cables to the gearbox. What an improvement!

Also changed oil, oil filter, air filter, transaxle oil and a complete coolant change.

Once the Coffin arm has been replaced, that should be everything for now.

Yep, the coolant hoses are definitely all in pristine condition mate

I've only been using the Boxster once a week lately, just to get food for my 92 year old Dad. He's housebound, lives on his own, and has carers in twice a day, but the only way he can get his shopping is for me to do it.  He lives about half an hour away, so I get a weekly fix of driving what is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned :thumbsup_anim:

After washing it yesterday, I decided to wax the car this morning, which is not something I usually bother with to be honest, but I had a bit of time on my hands... I reckon it must be at least a decade since I waxed any car, and I think the bottles of wax I found in my garage were a bit past their sell by date!  I used Maguiers first, but that didn't seem to wipe off very well, so I followed that with some Turtle Ice detailing spray (I don't even know if either of these are still available these days, ha ha!).  That seemed to work a bit better, and the car is now slightly shinier than it was, so I'm happy with that.

Disconnected the CTEK and drive to dad's with roof down and a frunk full of groceries.

My smile for that 40 mins or so has set me up for the week

Yesterday, after the frustration of not being able to complete the replacement of the coffin arms, thought i would clean some wheels and get them ready for use once the suspension revamp has been completed. Need to get the Lobster Claws refurbished and a couple of new tyres at some point.

Tested the flocking kit on a piece of rubber in readiness for tomorrow's attempt at the window seal edge repairs.

Confident it'll work, will update in due course 👍

Looking forward to the update👍

Had a go at re-flocking the rubber window seals where they had worn back to the rubber over the years. Was worth a go at £20 or so. Would have probably turned out a lot smoother if I had flattened the whole lot- instead patch repairing. Once the window closes it looks more uniform.

I didn't know that was even possible to repair.   Looks good, is there a kit that can be bought to do this?

It's quite a messy job so best to sheet up the door opening, it's not a perfect solution but far cheaper than new seals.
