Well for how much I paid , I am going to have a go at splitting them to effect a repair

Let me know how that goes, from what I have read you basically have to dremel cut them apart to reach the inside and then “glue” them back together! I don’t think these will come apart like the headlights by putting them in an oven for 5 mins or however long it is.

You sold them to me Stephen, it's funny how all that has lifted must be constant heat with condensation, anyway nothing ventured and all that!

Cleaned driver seat belt using Jonttt's method, and happy to say it now retracts again as it should (I was slightly sceptical).

Shocking to see the amount of dirt coming from a seemingly clean belt - this was the result of a short 10 minute soak and scrub 😲

Passenger belt to follow. 😃

Seems like a popular job last weekend! I did mine too, and got load of grime out. Left to dry for a couple of days (just to be sure!) and having read a lot of other articles on the same task, gave them an additional clean with AutoGlym Interior Shampoo following this article: https://www.blog.autoglym.com.au/cleaning-your-seatbelts/

Another evening left unwound, then took the clip holding the belt off. Retraction problem solved 🙂 Thanks to @Jontt for the ‘how to’, and lots of ideas for future jobs 👍🏻

Also just had my roof elastic replaced at Trimmania in Wokingham. The driver’s side had the all too common problem with the roof sitting outside the plastic trim. I had both sides replaced, and the roof lining elastic, so everything’s tucked in nicely now. I’ve seen the DIY fixes, but thought I’d treat myself to getting it done ‘properly’. They’ve done a cracking job, and definitely recommend them 🙂

I flattened my battery (again). Drove it last night in the dark for the first time, forgot the lights are not on a sensor like my Leaf dead as a dodo this morning. My wife went for a drive yesterday and helpfully pushed the boot buttons down and out of the position, so job no 1 was to fix that then discovered the button would not release the frunk. Internet to saved the day by suggesting using the key fob to open frunk, phew thought I would be fishing for the cable. My battery is definitely a bit weak, but this was all my fault!

Its also worth thinking about fitting a bluetooth battery monitor.......I can go from driving my boxster almost daily to not dirving it for 2 weeks (weather dependant mainly) and I have found these invaluable eg sometime I'm at the door thinking "which car should I take".....now I can check which needs its battery topping up from a run.......extract from my journal....

Bluetooth Battery Meter Review.....

So in these Virus Lockdown days the Boxster has been used a few days per week for a short commute into work but then has been stood for days without use.....although the commute runs are great with light traffic the car is just not getting the sort of run out it would normally....so I've started to wonder on the state of the battery.......I could maneauver cars around the driveway and put it on trickle charge but it would be nice to just "know" if the battery is OK or when it really needs charging......I checked out what options CTEK had to go with the charger (which already has the plug into battery connector with a status light but I find that unreliable)....sure enough they have a bluetooth device that can be left permanently on the battery with a phone app connecting to it......but its >£50 and ideally I would like x2 (ie one for the 993 and 987). The absolute ideal would be to be able to connect to either and know which car I was seeing.......so I thought it worthwhile googling alternative options ........a popular google find was a unit which seemed identical on pics but was badged up as different names with prices around £30-£40......then  I stumbled on an ebay seller who seemed to be selling the same unit for £19 delivered and had sold >300 of them.....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Car-Battery-Monitor-Bluetooth-BM2-Voltage-Meter-Battery-Tester-Analyzer/264502444967?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

So the sensible head said "worth a shout for £19" ...order one and see what its like......so I ordered x2 😁

Delivered in less than 3 days.......fitted and up and running with the app in less than 30 min on two cars with both identified by name.......it is simply a very impressive gadget and app for £19 delivered....whats not to like....

Install is very simple via C connectors simply placed inbetween the negative and positive terminals on the battery.....the app is installed from a link on the device and auto connects via bluetooth....then simply use the app settings to replace the device code with whatever you want to call the car.......

Comes in a simple plastic package....

IdYBeqX.jpg

just the device and pretty good instructions mainly about the app as the actual install is so simple...

hlE1sn9.jpg

A good quality metal C connector means it can be bent without fear of snapping to make a neat install as needed....

c0ys4lw.jpg

Online features and guides seem none existant hence me writing this guide for this device.....here is the manual in full for reference as to how it works and features in use...

s7zREOa.jpg

BQWRBq6.jpg

A8yzqel.jpg

hXJYYF9.jpg

QHtDQdK.jpg

wmOnycu.jpg

and a very simple install....just loosen the terminal bolts enough to slide the C clip in and tighten back up.....the gap between the battery and frunk seal was perfect to simply hold the main unit in place without needing to secure it further......ps I also have the CTEK connector installed on this battery.....

iA24U1Z.jpg

It connected quickly, I renamed the device connected to in the app settings and the first reading did indeed show a lower than ideal voltage given only infrequent short trips in the past few weeks ie not having chance to charge back up through use...

73foGa0.jpg

Cranking Voltage was however fine on starting the car which was what I experienced in practice ie no indication on starting that the battery was down to c50% charge.

SY8MeoZ.jpg

So I connected the CTEK up to recharge the battery...

LsyMIO2.jpg

and as expected all was fine just a few hours on charge later...

AAWKuZe.jpg

So what was it like to use.......well simple and pretty fun...it just worked without any messing around......my car was parked on the drive close to the house and from my lounge my phone connected to it so I could take readings remotely without leaving the house......I'll be able to do that at any time to keep tabs on the battery whenever I like......the unit is obviously ON 100% of the time so not sure what power drain will be like but it uses the latest bluetooth standards so I expect it has a sleep mode to reduce power drain simply waiting for something to connect to it.....

There is more which I've not had chance to check out yet....

The settings can be configured to auto take a reading every set time limit ...the unit itself keeps records for 31 days so as long as you connect your phone to it at least once every 31 days you keep a full history of the battery, when the car was stated and stopped (trips).... these are all downloaded historically to the phone on connection .....

..you can set alerts so if the battery charge drops below x% you get a warning on your phone the next time it connects....eg as you get in the car

Some pretty neat features in such a cheap device....

Time will tell just how useful it is in practice but lockdown is a time if ever I will need it even if just for piece of mind......I'm not sure if I will leave the app to run in the background on my phone as present ...advantage is auto notifications but not sure what battery drain on my phone will be like...

So in summary what appears to be a useful and slick bit of kit if you have a car which is not ran every day nor left on trickle charge when not in use for extended periods  :thumb:

Got my driving License back, so took it out and got my alignment done, then went for a blast, and all is in order after all the work I’ve done to it😊😊😊😊😊

Excellent, how does the exhaust sound Mick? Was the alignment far out seeing as you put it back to the settings you started with?

I hope you don't mind me asking, what happened to your license?

No problem I allegedly got done dd spent a year fighting it against a medical condition I have but to no avail, setting precedents and all that, hence RS60 had to go to pay legal fees

Suspension not a million miles out and exhaust is awesome!!!!

Thanks Mick, shame the fight with the system did not come to the right conclusion, good your back on the road now and can test your hard work. Pleased you like the exhaust, I fitted the 200 cell sports cats this year which opens the 987.2 sound, I do wonder what a new rear system would sound like....Interesting the tracking was not far out, looking to attempt the spring change too but finding a decent alignment locally is a pain. (usual KF and ATS bother me)

😱I had heard of cases where individuals had been wrongly charged with DD but assumed they were urban legend but it seems not.

How do you prevent it happening again if its a medical condition as opposed to a police mistake.

Anyway got offered the course and served nine month ban, very lucky to keep my job, but being in a very specialist line of work also helped

Basically not even consider having a drink at all when driving, and follow the 1 hour per unit , if I have ie at home, following morning scenario, so for example 4 cans of say Thatchers Cider would be 8 hours before it’s out of your system. And if you have eaten add another hour to that

Have you thought about getting yourself a breathalyser.  Not the disposable type as that could prove expensive if your going to use it regular but just to be sure if your man maths per hour have worked.

Most definitely, the maths come from the Drivers awareness course I did, most enlightening

I think if I was in your citation I would have bought one before now and tested it out against the maths to see how confident I felt about it all.

Thinking about it I probably should get one as in some peoples eyes I am an alcoholic as I find it very difficult to go a week with out a beer and can easily put away 20 plus pints in a good session. I don't drive the morning after one of those nor for most of the afternoon.

Based on the maths, that should be 40 hours between throttle and bottle....

Yes, got that one, but slightly lost track of who's car had battery problems and fitted it to last, I have suspicions but will need to track down :-)

Had a go at removing a small ding on the frunk lid, close to one edge. Double skinned in that area so would need a PDR professional to push it out from behind. Watched various Youtube videos including

Bought a puller and various tabs off Ebay; already have a hot glue gun.

First stick a tab to the dingGZZUnBI.jpg

Apply the pullerpVXob8G.jpg

peIoP2J.jpg

Apply some pressure to the lower lever to pull the tab upwards.

Practiced on a larger dent on the Skoda first and was very impressed as well as being reassured by lack of damage to paint work. Less successful on Boxster so far, possibly because metal is tougher and/or because ding is much smaller. Think i will make up a lined board, as used in the video, to aid placement of the tab before i continue.

Took the cover off for the first time in 4 months, started her up (first touch) and went for a drive down a local twisty road. Like it ought to be driven. Top down, sun out, could this car be more fun? Then I got back and wedged my rattly wind deflector with some rubber insulation off a bit of electrical cable. Then it started raining so I did some polishing.
