I adore it... 40k, absolutely immaculate inside and out and has been truly loved and adored by the 2 previous owners.

There is a snag however... I had a better audio experience in my teenage years driving my mums Ford KA around with an FM receiver linked to an MP3 player. It's the only drawback and will be the first thing I look to upgrade / change. They are atrocious, it's even making me think they're faulty but I think I'm just over thinking it.

Does anyone have any experience in upgrading the stock speaker system with a specialist in the UK? I have little to zero interest in trying to do this manually and whilst I've tinkered with custom mods to other cars (most recently the Z4 I had until last week) I really don't want to touch the immaculate trim / interior in this. I've already have people ask me if the plate is private as they cannot believe its a 2013 model.

So, any recommendations?

Looking forward to joining the community, I'm head over heals in love with the driving experience of this beautiful piece of engineering already!

OOhh a lovely white one - well done! Looks a beauty - most people tend to upgrade to Apple Carplay, my 987 SE is still stock radio & CD and they are rubbish - a couple have bought a new head unit from Ali Express but I've seen plenty of posts where things have gone wrong with those - someone who has upgraded will be on shortly for you

When is the track day please?

It’s May 13th - Go to the forum heading BoXa. net Meets Trackdays and Events - all the info is on the thread Group Track Day 13th May Donnington - quite a few of us are staying at an hotel the night before - some of the boys are bringing their other halves as well.

Congratulations on your new car and welcome to the forum.

I upgraded the speakers in my 981 a while back using Audison speakers and SCR connectors and adapters. The thread is here:- SPEAKERS

Thanks for this Tony, I did have a read last night after finding the thread through a search of the forum. Your initial swap of the dash speaker looks achievable but the soldering element I might outsource to an electrician friend IF I even think about doing this manually and not going through a specialist for a more complete upgrade.

Peter Preston at SCR is your man, he builds custom upgrade speaker kits you can fit yourself or make a trip up to him and he'll do it for you 👌

bit of a drive for me but certainly worth considering, thanks for the info, this had not shown up in any previous google searches I'd done.

He does make plug and play kits that make for a very easy install on the 981 if you are a little bit handy with a screwdriver, the door cards are very easily removable on the 981 making upgrading the speakers very easy

Looks lovely.  I'm an ex Z4 (Alpina) owner looking to make a similar move.

It'll be interesting to read what you think of the differences.

For me, the Z4 is a dinosaur - big heavy engine in the front - long bonnet - short tail - not enough of a true sports car to warrant the loss of two seats.

(YMMV) 😁

I've only driven one 981s for about 15 mins so my comparison is limited but the Porsche is definitely the more complete package. That being said, I lived with the Alpina for 12 odd years, used it sparingly and absolutely adored it.

The 981 is definitely a better drive but I won't have too many bad words said about my Britney! She was a great intro into 2 seater life and did a great job for a few summers.

@mr.tourette23 maybe I dismissed the idea too quickly, I've seen a plug and play head unit with android auto I think I'm going to order first and then I think I'll start with some dash upgrades before looking at the door speakers too. There's a paycheck or two already accounted for!

it has PSE, I've not played around with it too much yet.. good luck with the test drive, hopefully yours has speakers that don't sound like low power walkie talkies!

You should watch this video-perfect intro to accessibility on the 981 and what can and can’t be done easily. Very straightforward and no waffle. 👍

great video to have saved in youtube, thanks for that. how did the test drive go?

i just got done installing a new after market android head unit, an absolute doddle and make such a difference after dealing with the original CDR set up mine had. trying now to figure out why the door panel speakers don't emit any sound at all (just the tweeters working at the moment) before I go and get some new ones from a guy from here - speakers pnp
