What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Replaced the ignition switch today, easy diy job made harder by being 6’2”.

i got a German made non OEM from Eurocarparts delivered same day to my door for £15.  The key now goes in and out smoothly but I feel that I have to push it home just a bit too hard when starting.  I will go for a spin tomorrow and see how I get on with it, maybe getting returned.  Old adage, you gets what you pay for!

On the plus side think the old switch was the cause of excessive battery drain.  Before when the key was removed I think the switch was still in position 1 causing several other issues from lazy central locking, stereo always on and being able to operate the electric windows without the key in the ignition.

Small update.

Ignition switch is perfect when correctly seated!

Was getting cold, sore and tired yesterday and rushed the end bit.  Stupid!!!

electric windows will work for approx 20-30 after you remove key.  Crazy I know, but it's one of those Porsche things as time goes by, more systems get shut down.

Mine will work with no key, but only when the door open.

Cleaned out the front drain holes on my 986.

I used some sink un-blocker chemicals and a syringe to get the job done. Today I've also bought a battery tray on ebay to refurbish and then replace.

On Saturday had 2 front Michelin Pilot Sports fitted and the tyre guy knew to point the crest to the tyre vale. I used Bush Tyres in Knaresborough. They've ordered some rears to match for next week-end.

The list.....so far:

4 new springs (rear o/s was snapped so not taking any chances as they all looked poor) rear cv boots, front disks skimmed, new drop links all round, new condensers.l and pipe....

Wow, SiPie. Is your back better then?  I think it was your back, you were thinking of selling...

Well remembered 👍

Back comes and goes but in reality not much worse in the Porsche than my other car.

Car is well specced, has had glowing appraisals from 2 specialists, a small fortune spent on it by me and the devious owner I. The last few years and brings a smile so will be kept for another year or 2 I reckon

Yes but you will need a different harness to get it to work with the optics.  A mate of mine knows what is needed I will ask him for you

Thanks

2 x Michelin Pilot Sports N3 for the rear of my 986.

These match the fronts put on last week-end. At 3284 for the fronts and £334 for the rears I think I got a fair deal.

They've transformed the ride, grip and handling. It's only a 2.5 but at least I can use all the power now.

DAB radio next........any suggestions for single DIN, DAB, Bluetooth, CD Player?

I was changing the pads and discs but of course on an 18 year old car most of the bolts are a struggle to remove. I already used a thread repair kit for a sheared bolt that holds the flexible hose bracket but fortunately all the caliper bolts came out OK.

Just stuck on the NS with one of the poxy M6 screws that hold the disk in place. Will need to drill the blasted thing out but ran out of time to complete. So close!
