981 S minor service

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can tell me a cost for a minor service on a 981 Boxster S? It's my first service and have been quoted £510. Seems expensive for a minor? The car is 6 years old with 20k miles on

Cheers :)

Phone Russ at Revolution (Brighouse) or Steve at Jaz (St Albans) . Both excellent Porsche independants.

I assume the quote was from OPC?

Hi Pinewood, would this affect the re sell of a car if it wasn't OPC? and yeah that's correct - Porsche centre

Cheers

Not in my experience. Use a well respected independant and you won't devalue the car. If you are trying to keep the highest provenance, then obviously OPC.

Is the service history all dealer thus far?

If it is, then only you can decide if it's worth following the road or branching off.

Do you have an official Porsche warranty still on the car, if it's 6 years old? If so, that is likely to (depends on small print) limit you to an OPC carrying out the service.

If you are still under extended warranty, you can still have the car serviced at any garage with a  VAT number.  you just need to be able to prove they purchased and used genuine Porsche parts.

That's what I did with Revolution.  It smarts when they charge £30 per spark plug mind !

Hi all, yeah still got the warranty and was planning on extending it in September. I take it I would have to use OPC in order to extend the warranty again?

Adamsky, please fill in your My Location (at least county, if not nearest large town) - helps us to know if you're in Inverness or Cornwall :)

Patt's post above advises on warranty extension.

As said above, although you can get it serviced elsewhere, if you are looking to extend your warranty in September I would take it into OPC get the Service and 111 point check at same time (ask for discount on 111 point check as they check most of it on the service anyway).

Also I bet that £510 does not include Brake fluid which should be done every 2 years and will add £95 to the cost.

I wish it was £95 - Brake fluid is £160. But I do have a mechanic who I have had loads of work with so I might get him to do the brake fluid. Thank you all for advice!

You need to go to a different OPC then, one that conforms to these Porsche fixed prices:

I had a quote only last week from an OPC for a minor (60k) and they quoted over the fixed price as per the Porsche website for both service and brake fluid AS WELL as adding extra advisories like 'checking belt and checking engine mounts'...I'm still not convinced if the OPC's are misquoting due to incompetence, trying it on or just dont know that there is a fixed price as per Porsche GB - total for mine was £1300 with the extra advisories, and they hadn't even seen the car?!

So that you know if you extend the warranty with Porsche in due course you will have ot pay for the 111 point check AND I was told by an indie that you are likely to be forced to have the last service done again at the OPC...best check with the OPC before doing anything.

link to Porsche fixed price servicing inc brakes etc (and 111 point check cost)

https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/serviceandorgininalparts/servicepricing/#

those are inc vat so there is no reason the brakes are over £95 and the service is more than £495 (and given there is a lot of 'looking and not doing' on a minor its a bit rich even at that!)

Greenman, thanks for this - much appreciated.

Stuart, I am on of the same opinion that this is hefty for a minor. I know we are comparing Porsche to BMW (thank god) but agreed, it's very steep. I will be calling them to ask about the Brake fluid. They did advise the belts being done, but they won't stamp to say the work (for the belts) has been done if it's not done on same day as service. I think it's ridiculous personally.

Again all - thanks for your help

Personally, I'd insist on a printout from the OBC too (BEFORE the reset). So you can also look into required warranty work before your current term expires.

eg mine has already been in for a faulty handbrake, yet when accessing the computer this weekend it has already thrown the same error twice in 6 weeks !

When I asked what was done to fix it the man at Porsche told me they had "adjusted it"  - that translates into reset the error on the computer.

Sounds to me like they are falling into the ways of all other brands.

Have to admit when I took my car in about my roof problem - their solution was 'we can quote you on a new roof if you like?' not a lover of the service I have had so far to be honest. No different to a certain Audi garage I visited in Berkshire.

As far a I recall,  6 years is also replacement air filters, although this might be for later cars. Worth checking if they were replaced at the four year major service.

In my experience once they actually have the car they will miraculously find a load of other stuff that they recommend be done (have they mentioned servicing the AC?) and the bill can be much higher if you take them up on their offer.

Yes, AC, I was told both rads leaking, £1200.00 to do fix. I made the mistake of ordering the parts and fitting them, what I should have done is remove the bumper and check them before parting with £330.00 for the kit. Turns out there were no leaks, as I had the new ones I just went ahead and fitted them.  I had much faith in my OPC before this, now I think its just upselling, really sad in my opinion. Of course if you have loads of cash floating about you would just accept it and tell them to do it. Maybe a good specialist in future

Wow, I would write a formal complaint about that and openly question whether it is the crime of fraud.

I always replace the air filters annually, along with oil and filter. Just had it all replaced and Gareth @ revolution did comment as to amount of dust he cleaned out of the air intake this time.. A noticeable difference in performance afterwards?

So It's booked in at Swindon OPC as they follow the guideline prices online.

I take it the filters etc get replaced even on a minor? lol...
