Hi folks

I thought I should introduce myself. I'm Russ from rainy Devon!!   I've just joined up after lurking for a bit as I am about to take the plunge and invest in a 986.

Can't get stuck in until January as I am waiting for my dreaded tax bill and once I know what's left, I will start a proper search. It's great reading all the threads with friendly advice about what to look out for as one is always a bit nervous about older vehicles. I should have learned my lesson as I have a 1970's Citroen H Van that I've converted to a camper and it hasn't been cheap!!!

Ideally I would like to buy one through the forum, for obvious reasons. Not to bothered about 2.7 Vs 3.2 and mileage. Just want one that has been cherished with a really good maintenance history.

Hopefully, I'll have between £5/6000, which should get me what I'm after.

Many thanks to all, for the advice that you have offered to the forum. I'm really glad I stumbled across this place.

Well that tells us you know one end of a spanner from the other, anyway :)  Your purchase expectations seem well-founded.

Advice, strong opinions and a few facts are scattered around on here.

No, there are some really knowledgeable people on here so take maximum advantage but don't forget there are other sources of good info too in various places.  101 Projects For Your Boxster is also a good book to track down as is the pelican / 101projects website and also Pedro's Garage website, both US sites but the cars are essentially the same except for where the steering wheel and dash instruments are positioned... I'm sure you've found a few others during your research just as many of us have.

Buy well, have some maintenance/repair cash and a bit for nice to have upgrades. They are quite easy to work on with not too many specialist tools required.

Enjoy whatever you get once you've bought it.

Pm your email or WhatsApp and I can send you pics and details and probably work out a deal with you
