A really good PDR chap I've used is called Andy Biss. Runs DentBuster out of Weston-super-Mare (he's mobile).

He did a cracking job on my 986 and a couple of family members cars. He's an old friend of my Dad's.

My question is do I make a claim and risk them writing the car off or just suck it up sort it out myself, If they look at the damage and then decide to write it off can I at that point say I will repair myself and not go through the insurance, will this still be logged on the car?

It's a difficult one in that if you go to an assessor via the insurance they technically have to pay them for the quote, any decent bodyshop would let you know the cost in a private quote you can then guesstimate if it was to be written off - the PDR route is definitely the best. To give you an idea of potential cost, I had the drivers door and rear quarter repaired and painted after a scratch and very minor dent and it was in excess of £1000 - thankfully it was a private job and the 3rd party paid for it not me.

dont forget the other costs that could be involved in a claim too...my towbar claim was around £8000 with most of that being the Cayman S that the 3rd parties insurance company paid for, for almost 3 weeks at £250 + vat per day 😀

@the baron I've bene thinking about this, any claim should be on you household insurance as the tree is part of the property and the car is the 3rd party object of any claim.  As it would be house insurance related it shouldn't count as a motor policy claim. May be a lot easier to put through repair costs by a dent specialist and a bumper respray organised by you and minimising the value of the loss and the insurer allowing the claim on an indemnity basis and the excess is probably lower.  As the policy is issued to the same person suffering the loss, unless as in my case the house insurance is done my my better half so is in her name, an adjuster my be appointed to ensure 'fair play'.

Whatever happens, Good Luck.

(correct use of 'whatever' 😉)

You can’t claim off yourself. So will have to be an insurance claim on the car.

Not just off yourself.  I remember in the '87 hurricane, my next door neighbours car was written off when the gable end of a house fell on his car (not his house).  He still had to claim on the car insurance rather than the owner of the house which fell.

You can, that’s why some policies have cover for accidental damage.

Thanks, I had the same thought but there is an excess of £500 due to a claim we had 8yrs ago for over £150k 😳

Dent Master is coming out on Wednesday to sort out the dents and I will buff out scratches myself. I’ve picked up a pair of lights for £15 off eBay.

so I reckon all in £400 to bring back to how it was. 😃

in this instance its not an accident damage claim though...and that would still be a claim against the car policy if it was

...I made a claim against my sister's car insurance policy a few years ago following her reversing into a house she rented off me and causing £5000 damage to the frontage...that was a fun claim...I claimed against the third party aspect of her policy

Yes, I think I see what @Wish was getting at now. The car wouldn’t be part of the building or contents to qualify for accidental damage cover and the third party cover clearly only covers third parties.

I’d definitely be keeping the insurance company out of this and just sort it myself.

Hope the dent man does a good job👍

Seems to be a sound plan and £400 to fix it up is a lot less than it could have been had the branch taken out the hood, or worse, you!  There but for the grace....

Great news, show us some pictures ………………...

I couldn't really capture the extent of the damage with my iPhone so there's not a lot to show as the body work is now immaculate 😀
