Disappointing aftermarket suppliers, i must be jinxed... or using the wrong ones

I've had mixed experience with Design911. The most annoying thing is that as others have said, when you order something on their site, there's no way of telling if its in stock or not. I've also not been informed if something is out of stock until I've either been sent a dispatch note with stuff missing or I've asked where a delivery is. Its just a bit surprising that their website and inventory isn't updated as its really annoying to not know when something is going to arrive when you're inevitably relying on other things like booking a car in with a mechanic etc.

this was exactly my problem i ordered in time to arrive for a pre booked appt, then found out later it was on indefinite back order...

seems silly they have to pay for a website, and the someone to answer my phone call to check its actualy available...

If it is a genuine Porsche part you require then well over 90% of the time an OPC will be your cheapest source.  Anyone else is putting their % on top of the Porsche price.  If you want OE supplier, upgraded or aftermarket then shop around but check out feedback on the suppliers you want to use.

So after 2.5 days I got a response from Porsche shop and confirmation I can return the item and have my shipping refunded. Do check that as there site terms state customer pays for postage both ways..

Always worth checking both terms and legal position. I had an issue returning a faulty battery to Tayna under warranty. They sent replacement but refused to refund my return costs till i pointed them to the relevant contract law when they coughed up.

Good luck! Keep an eye on it! Make sure you get everything back, they supplied the wrong item, its as simple as that, not like "I didnt like the colour or I changed my mind" in those cases return shipping would be at your expense

Another example today, i decided to order some genuine Porsche carpets from D911, its on the site at £103 for sale, but knowing i now need to contact them before order i dropped them an email, to be told they no longer sell this item.... glad i didnt just check out then..

Last month I called D911 for some front discs & pads. Also ended up getting the wear sensors, anti rattle shims and caliper bolts, plus some screws that hold the discs on. All in stock, arrived next day. Approx £300 all in.

Before this I called my local OPC (Brooklands) and asked for a price. When it started with a "6" I switched off ! I then had to ask if this was supply AND fit? No, just supply. But I would agree that a lot of other things from them have been less money than "The Bay" and other specialists.

One other thing, I ordered a set of wheel bolts for the car (D911) roughly £100.

Looking at Spyder Performance website yesterday for something else, showed they did a set for under £50 !! Didnt know they did these.

From my experience the other week. Ordered new coil packs and spark plugs. I ordered from Frazerpart.com. Reasonable priced think it was around £200 for the lot, 6 packs+plugs. Got the free delivery and a £5 off voucher for being a new customer. Ordered on the Wednesday evening got them on the Saturday with Friday being a bank holiday. So genuinely happy with them.

I did call Porsche Mid Sussex and they wanted £60+ per coil pack!!!! I didn't bother to ask for spark plugs.

I have used Frazerpart for a few bits and pieces over the years and have always been impressed with their prices and delivery times

Design 911 still don't have stock of condensers. I'm wishing I'd ordered them from Carparts4less.

I'm patient by nature but the unchanging status on my order is becoming frustrating.

I have parts coming from Germany & USA ordered the same day. It looks like Design 911 will deliver last.

Phoned Design911 this morning, one week after ordering & paying. The condensers are on back order, so no likelihood of prompt delivery. I've cancelled the order and ordered them from Carparts4less - saving around £20.00!

As people said earlier in the thread, Design911 really shouldn't take orders & money for stock they have no prospect of delivering in reasonable time. Tiresome.

I'm still awaiting my money back from reactive parts, 8 days after cancelling the order. They say their t&c's on refunds are 7 working days, so they have until tomorrow.

Also angry they took payment knowing they had no stock.

IIRC the smile vent is very cheap from OPC.

I always cost out genuine parts first after seeing stereo surrounds on ebay for £35 (£7 from OPC) and GT3 brake ducts at £65 (Again less than a tenner new)

I also check foe VAG equivalent parts too.

Good luck with your claim, although only "good will2 will refund a postage return, sadly I think you have lost that sum.

well i got refunded the cost of the air filter, the postage to me, but not the postage back to the supplier...

That would be in line with my understanding of the distance selling regulations. Free returns are at the seller's discretion.

Carparts4less delivered my new condensers this morning. I'm very glad I cancelled those from Design911 as they still haven't delivered the rest of the stuff I ordered on the 8th. Other parts are en route from elsewhere (USA & Germany). I'm almost ready to get the work underway.

My DesignTek exhaust arrived today, exactly when Design911 said it would. Very good service, so I wanted to point that out having had less-than-good service in the past.

You'd hope so as Designtek registered address is the same as Design911. It's their own brand   brought in and stamped up with their branding.

For consumables, such as brake pads / discs, have found Frazerpart to be very good. Their customer service is excellent, Max responding to emails promptly. Their system won't allow you to order items (or quantities of these) which aren't physically in stock.

However, they mainly supply OEM / equivalent items, as such they don't have an extensive catalogue as D911, for instance.
