No doubt covered many times before , wonder how many of these failures are mechanical vs exposure of the electrical side to the elements ?

Have you seen my thread when I dismantled mine? Electrical elements aren't exposed they're baked into the unit. My error code was a failure in the pressure sensor, which is well buried in the unit.

Thanks - remember the thread. I thought there had been some sort of revision to the electrical connector at one stage to further weather proof it.

I believe the connector is the standard VW "D" type connector used across the whole VW/Skoda/Seat/Audi/Porsche range for many things. Fairly well proven, although this is in probably a more exposed area than your average VW

Thanks - maybe I'm just talking Rolex.

Chipping in and I know I am in the minority here but I would genuinely just replace them for standard gearbox mounts and code PADM out.

It's too much of a headache, I remember @Greenman missing out on a summer's worth of antics due to waiting on stock (that's going back a few years).

I appreciate some on here still have extended warranty so that's not an option. It is something that puts me off a 981 (with chrono).

Problem is coding it out to remove the error on the dash as that would be an MOT fail these days. Then coding it out you'd presumable have to loose the Sports+ mode on the gearbox changes as they may be too brutal for a normal mount to cope with and all the other bits that Sports+ gives you. No idea if any of that's possible but I looked when mine went and couldn't see any easy options to code out just PADM, things may have changed now though.

I remember when I suggested this to the Porsche Tech after having my second one replaced it went down like a lead balloon !!.  I had two done separately when the car was between 1 and 2 years old. It’s now nearly nine years and no further failures. The tech suggested that there had been a design tweak when my second was replaced, whether or not that’s true or bluster I don’t know.

Then don't buy a 981 with chrono. Bit of a waste anyway, better of with PSE 🤣🤣🤣

Looks like there is an up issue progression from 981 375 059 04 (via 05, 06 and 07) to 981 375 059 08.  So seems to be a genuine answer about a design tweak, although up issues can be for very minor reasons down to a change of sub-contact supplier for the mounting stud or a change of profile on the tip of the stud to aid assembly, even if the complete assembly comes in from the same supplier and is totally compatible and that are unrelated to the failures you've suffered.  That there have been so many for a fairly complex component on a low volume car in production for 5 years indicates they may well be intended to solve some problems.

987.2 doesn't have fancy mounts it's no harsher using sport+

Porsche offer aftermarket Chrono installs for cars without the factory option so it can't be impossible or difficult & an example Cotswold Porsche have installed Chrono to plenty of cars that didn't already have the option so that would be a good specialist to go to. Delete and reinstall if needs be.

So, fingers crossed my new  PADM will be delivered to the Indy tomorrow.  All being well 'twill be fitted Thursday. Two and half month wait. Hardly driven the car in that time though. Nice to have the car in shape for the approaching spring 👍 Btw for those who know me as proud resident of Hemel Hempstead complete with it's fine Norman church and contrasting new town architecture of the 50's & 60's I must inform that I have now moved to another town of interesting toponymy, Leighton Buzzard.

New nearside PADM fitted, no issues, at JZM Kings Langley. Part was a mere £754.88 plus VAT making a total of £905.86 . . .glad they don't recommend replacing 'em in pairs.

Saw an interesting Boxster Spyder there. A very dark bottle green, with red interior, so interested in the colour I did not note if it was a 981 or 718. A customers car and it was tipping down.
