In_dellible, I saw the lead log tonight when my haggling was going south! I said prove it they had 18 people, 3 ready to ring and had said they’d leave holding deposit. They think and I agree it’d sell quick, if I bailed.

so gbox oil and check possible replace aux belts + norm service?

I'd be shocked if they had 18 leads and 3 with genuine interest. I recently got fed the same kind of sales pitch and backed out . Car is still for sale 2 weeks later. Sounds like dealer shyatee to me. But it doesn't matter because it's a lovely car, so if you pay 100 quid to have your gear box oil changed it isn't the end of the world. Major service wise, inspection of the Poly rib belt is a standard major service item they won't quibble about it, it's easy and cheap, ask for a photo, it's 2019 it takes them 5 seconds. I would also ask for the old parts, you can make it easy to do so by saying you're teaching your kids about car maintenance. Oil filter to cut open yourself to check for metallic debris, spark plugs, air filters, poly belt, say you want the old items to show the kids. It's hard for them to argue with that.

If you have a decent (well recommended) Indy nearby then call them for a quote for a 12 year service.  I reckon the whole thing belt gearbox oil service and engine air filter would be a about 600.

Then go tell Toyota guy you will take without the service and suggest a price drop of around that.

If they won’t play ball then get them to change the oil and then you could get the catchup items done at an Indy for (guess) around 250 to 300. It’s worth getting the things done but don’t make it a deal breaker if the car is good.

Well done on your purchase.  The A/T link doesn't work any more so the sooner you get pictures up, the better. :D

I'm not surprised the dealer is talking shyatee from the way the advert was couched, sounded like something a 17 year old ned would put in an ebay ad.

Get in writing exactly what they will do for the service as I would be amazed if they were going to do anything other than a generic one.

Worth remembering at the end of the day, they have ONE car they are trying to sell you, there are hundreds more out there. Ball is always in your court.

Yes, I would be very dubious about the "service" they would do.

I would tell them straight out that for the deal to go through, you expect them to carry out a full Porsche point by point service, exactly as an OPC would do.

Simple oil change will not do!

Looks like a great car, well done. Is that a PSE button on the dash? Bonus if so.

Er yes it is...I was wanting a carnewal thing but don’t need that now.

waiting on response from my service email...I’m not holding out too much...to be honest I’m kinda ok with it.

i guess some of the comments do make me think I caved too early, but i base it on “would I be miffed if I lost it” and the answer was yes.

theres no way they’ll knock off 600 notes...so it’s a case of getting the max out of it now....

Good to hear you found the right one - maybe the photos, but doesn’t look very black to me? 😜😜

now you have the excitement of pickup day to look forward to

After looking at 4 black ones I decided I wasn’t as keen in the flesh, it’s daft but the silver is more 550

Can you get them to pay for a specialist service (or even offer to split the bill)?  Would look better than a Toyota stamp in the logbook.

That’s not a bad idea...I suspect my email sent late yesterday will generate a call from the salesman

it might be handy to somehow know the ‘internal’ cost of a service. Parts at trade, internal labour rate.

i suspect now we have a deal it will be tricky to undo...well given the (on reflection of the evening) selling techniques they are well versed in, I don’t buy cars from dealerships so never had this before.

I am thinking of the ‘how can I be sure you won’t break my beloved car as you are not Porsche engineers?’ tack

it’s genuinely freaking me out, I have images of a technician well versed in a modern Japanese car on YouTube trying to work out how the undertray comes off...

If you don't ask, you don't get, but I think expecting a full Porsche service with catch-up on all service items is a bit unrealistic unless you specifically agreed this with the dealer. I suspect what the dealer meant by 'a service' was a quick oil and filter change. I'd never worked on a Porsche before servicing mine, but it's really not anything special or exotic, undertrays are ubiquitous on modern cars, so I wouldn't worry about the dealer working on it.

If the deal is done your chances are small. Tell them what needs to be done and ask what they will do from it. Puts the ball in their court. If they could get parts at trade price and give them to you to fit, it may already help.

Not much point getting Toyota to do it if it’s just an oil and filter change as it will need to go elsewhere for everything else.  What sort of oil would they use for a start?  It just raises questions when it’s time to sell it on.

If it is due a service and that was agreed then I would be requesting that it be done by the book as a starting position.  Then try to negotiate a compromise to have a specialist attend with some splitting of the cost.  I recall their ad made the fact that it had a full specialist history as a selling point so they could hardly claim a Toyota stamp is just as good!

Been following this post from the start and I hate to say it but "you should of bought mine" all the problems and comments talked about are sorted with mine, the only negative point is the road tax band but "it's worth it"

I hope everything runs ok from now on and you fall love in love with the Boxster experience.

I started to type a lengthy reply...and like the spoon I can be pressed something in error and deleted it.

my closing before moving onto my running report thread (fingers crossed 😝)....

...is look at Guvs signature - this says it all. Life is, and can be short.

yes I could have done things differently, held out, waited, etc etc. But I had made my choice to own what I feel is a very competent and iconic car, with a glorious sound that I can immerse myself into with my darling wife (or one of the 2 offspring)

so anyone not yet morbidly bored by the ramblings and still undecided, I think the boxster offers enormous value to the fun/cost ratio.

Yes they can be a little pricey to run at times, but do your research, ask on here...this forum has been magical in the response and general helpfulness...reject anything dodgy and probably try and be a little more patient than me 😂🤣😂

But Get one. *

Enjoy it and drive safe.

*dont bankrupt yourself or family but buy the best you can afford -leave a little in reserve for the running costs 💷💷💰💷

Thanks Guvs, now I am trying to work out which double din I want...the threads on those are quite small in detail...unless I’m not searching right 🤓

I put one in my 986 but haven't done it in the 987, there is a good how to for the double din for the 987 on here in the "How To" section I  think.

Dubdubz,

Many, myself included have fitted XTRON android head units so do a search on that. They are fast and flexible. They do dedicated fit versions at a price and generic ones that can be fitted with a little work for less money. I am very happy with my (generic) one but wished I had bought one with a dedicated rotary volume control. There are other manufacturers available of course.

Please don’t take any of my comments as a criticism, this is just what I would do in your situation.  It looks like a cracking car so anything you get from the dealer re servicing I would treat as a bonus.  I would be wary about adding a Toyota stamp to the book is all,

good luck and enjoy the new ride!
