Enigma362
Advice please, just bought 987s and I want /have to replace all the tyres. I won’t be doing track days etc , I live in Cornwall so reasonably empty roads for the next 5 months. The car has lots of clever stuff in the suspension control but I plan on going easy whilst I learn how to drive her. Manual, 19’’ rims, pasm, Thanks E
Pinewood
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S if you feeling flush. Otherwise MPS2 (N2) is still a very good tyre and what i'm currently running. They have been great in all weather.
Glosrich
Yep N rated tyres if you can afford it, better also for resale as buyers will see you have cared for the car. Bridgestone, Pirelli and Michelin are N rated and increase in price in that order. Sites like black circles and my tyres have N rated search selectors. ½cwt
Unless you are looking for the highest degree of the limit and perfection, N rated (BTW Continental also offer N rated to add to the list above) is not essential which brings in to play Goodyear (Asymmetric 5) and Dunlop (Sport MAXX RT2) at a slightly lower price point (about £100 less per car set) but as good a tyre as you are likely to need. Kumho (about £150 less per car set) have also had good reports from 986 users. Shop around on line for individual fitters offers and note brands do run promos on their own sites too. For supply only if you're happy to sort out fitting Camskill can be good value but remember the delivery, fitting/disposal charges are not included in their price listing. Gordmac
I put Goodyear Eagle on my Cayman, proper 17" though. N rated, seem a very good tyre.
Menoporsche
Got Goodyear as I couldn’t justify 25% extra on Michelin. Mine are Assy/Assy3, not sure how different the 5 is.
mavis.d
I've just put a set of PS 4 s on, had PS4 on the last car not had change to fully apprise them yet 😉 but will do in due course. Got themm from black circles with a 15% off cost £580 for a full set. Personally wouldn't put anything else on except Michelins
Mattman42
I had Avon Zv1’s fitted on the front of mine to replace the Bridgestones. Found them quieter and good performers with comparable ratings. As others have said, if it’s out of Porsche warranty you don’t need to pay the Porsche tax for N rated. Enigma362
Thanks for all the advice, black circles is useful resource, there was a sort of consensus which is handy when you are ignorant of what to do at least I tried to investigate what is what K
Dubdubz
should we have a 'sticky' where we as a forum, post what we have and what we consider to be good? similar to tyrereview make, range and size - we could have 'real world' categories like noise, confidence level, in addition to dry grip/wet grip? maybe even if the owner is happy to be contacted about it? Iwazaru
For me the N Tyre motive is a load of Porsche twaddle, get Kuhmo ecsta and save yourself a rake of wedge for a Tyre that is up with way more expensive. I have them on my 987.1 2.7 sport and they are the dogs dangles.
andygo
I have a set of 19" Pirelli tyres with at least 6mm on each tyre for sale next week. They have done about 1500 miles. Open to sensible offers.
Glosrich
I know a lot of you think N rated is twaddle, but a lot of dealers expect it on a Porsche. When I was selling a Porsche the specialist knocked £500 off, saying they would have to replace all the tyres with N rated, so I paid for my penny pinching in the end, and they were still the best offer I had. I wonder if the Porsches he was selling actually had N rated tyres fitted? I can't imagine them selling the car £500 cheaper if not.

I wonder if it's mandatory in Germany, as they have a lot stricter rules about tyres allowed on a car, only what it was homologated for etc.

moneypit
Anyone link to a site that currently sells Goodyear Asy 5 in 265 35 19 as I've tried and failed to find them. As far as I can see, Goodyear don't make such a thing, N rated or otherwise. The fronts yes, rears, no.
PaulQ
AFAIK they only do the Eagle F1 Supersport in that size.
moneypit
Goodyear Asy have been my go to tyre for years, I've never used anything else on the road I trust as much as them, although I accept that's a completely subjective view. As much as I like them as a road tyre, they're cr*p on track though. The Michelins on mine now have plenty of tread, but age wise are past their best, and I'm waiting for Goodyear to get their shyate together before I commit. Pinewood
food delivery and long way home today. Car showed 2 deg C, it's sleety rain and didn't skip once, even under hard acceleration. Michelin Pilot sport 2 (N2)

Michelin Pilot sport 2 (N2) Had these on the last one and it felt as sure footed as anything, whatever the conditions. I'm scrubbing down some P Zero's on this one and will go back to the Michelin's. Michelin Pilot sport 2 (N2) Previous boxster had continentals conti sport 3 - n1 rated - was fine - never found them lacking and I put a new pair on the rear when I had it - but they don't make them anymore - current car michelin ps2's all round - can't fault them - and have "gone again" - replacing the rears when I managed to f one up with a raised kerb hiding on an apex - and to quote Martin Brundle "ambition > ability" and a clipped said kerb. Michelin have long been my goto tyre irrespective of car - and now I am in the apparent minority of thinking that N rating matters ( no slight on anyone who considers otherwise) - so more than happy with ps2's
