Old lady reversed up a down ramp into me this morning, my evasion skills meant it’s just a scrape down the ass end rather than the whole left side being totalled.

Getting a quote from a specialist, haven’t called the insurers yet.  They might write her off.  My car, not the old lady that is.

The car’s never had a dent in her until now, her 17th year.

Yes but then you’ve got the stigma of a Cat a/b/c/ or d on the history which will devalue the car.

Yeah, haven’t been able tonoost pictures here for years due to the file limits and inability to delete old pictures, plus I don’t use other image hosting sites...😬

 

its not so bad, I’m waiting in a quote and hoping it can just be tidied up rather than replaced.

If I do go the insurance route, I’ve never had simple dealings with an insurer so expect the nightmare we always get.  I’m not sure what a write off means for insuring it again....we had my wife’s car written off last year for something even more minor and that took six months to resolve.

If the other party accepts liability, then it's probably best to claim directly off the 3rd party insurers rather than through your own or an accident management company. You can then negotiate the claim value and retention of vehicle directly. Your current insurance policy should continue unaffected if you claim from the third party although your payout would be reduced for a further writeoff as it would be classed as a Cat N after the claim. I was hit lightly in the back a couple of years ago in my Golf and claimed on the third party.  Their assessor came out and costed the repairs (a small plastic weld to rear bumper, new reg plate and a re spray of the bumper.  I was given option of them repairing it with hire car etc or taking just their repair cost as cash which I did.  Might be an option?

That's why they only offer the repair in cash not the hire car too unfortunately.  On another occasion my wife was hit from behind in her Alfa 147.  Was in the shop for just over 3 weeks and we had a very nice Audi A4, 'Sir, all we have that would be of similar is an A4 would that be OK?' or something like that is what the claim handler said) must have cost thousands in all stinging the other insurer.

As my Boxster is the 3rd car I deliberately avoid the courtesy car cover so they have a bigger repair budget before write off.

Should I also admit that, if you are 50 sometime this year or older SAGA (yes, cringe and hide - stutter in disbelief), are covering my car this year.  Best like for like quote with any insurer and 90 days Europe cover included.

Hi guys,

This saga is still going on.

Zenith handed me to Enterprise who have taken weeks trying to make me arrange everything for them and finally to decide the won’t fix my car.

I just knew these guys would fek me about.

Have a read of @chrishak thread - should be easy to find. He had terrible trouble with insurance company writing his car off. But he battled hard and i think it worked out in the end so may be some help for you there.

I don’t know what other people have experienced in this regard. I personally had a pay out of £1000 more than I paid for my old Cat D car after 16 months hard use when she was unfortunately written off. The settlement shows they deducted 20% for the Cat D status. 

Sometimes we can be quick to assume “facts” that are not in evidence.

Car hasn’t been written off, at least not yet.  It is simply the most infuriating cr*p.

Their “insurer” M&S, my “insurer” Zenith both are actually brokers.

I phone Zenith, they say no worries we’ll put you in touch with Enterprise, they’ll fix your car and give you a hire car. Third party will pay for it all.

M&S phone me and say it’s all our drivers fault, we can sort it for you (and this is where I make the mistake), I say no, Zenith/Enterprise are sorting it out thanks very much.

I then get calls from “Enterprise” and Enterprise Car Hire.  Neither of whom seem to know each other, the car hire department wants me to phone the repair department to find out when the repair is happening...then to call him back and let him know.  I suggest he calls them himself, then being “Enterprise” and the same business after all.  He refuses.

Enterprise and Enterprise Car Hire start calling me every few day, one to say they haven’t arranged the repair, the other to ask me when the repair is happening. 🤨 

Their buddy from Enterprise Legal Expense Claims joins the party a week later....”Hi, I’m from the legal expense claims dept!” Which department is that then? “You know the ones handling your claim?”...can you actually say who you work for? “Oh yeah, Enterprise, I’m calling to say the third party has admitted full liability”.  And then proceeds to tell me how I could claim for my injuries...as the weeks pass, this call repeats almost verbatim until they start telling me they have “legally set aside funds for my compensation”, because the other driver has made a claim.  £3500 they are touting for me to claim. 🙄

Okay...so avid readers probably wondering if the car is going to be fixed yet.  Well, so is the car hire guy who is now calling me every day and still refuses to talk to his colleagues in repairs. Then one day “Hello sir this is Enterprise, we’ve arranged for Citroen Masters to fix your car”..great, are they going to get the paint right? “Yes sure, I’ll double check but I’m sure they will.” ...hmm, okay.  2 days pass, Mr Car Hire & Mr Legal Expenses still running me through the same conversations repeatedly. “Hello sir this is Enterprise, Citroen say they can’t do it because of the age of your vehicle.”...Right, have you thought of asking someone else to do it? “No.” ...perhaps you could? “If you want to find another Repairer Of Your Choice, and pass their details we can try to arrange terms with them.” ...you won’t find someone yourself then? “No.” Okay, here’s a specialist I use.

...time passes...Mr Car Hire is still shocked the repairs aren’t yet arranged, Mr Legal Expenses still thinks he can goad me into a fraudulent claim...

”Hello sir this is Enterprise, the Repairer Of Your Choice has refused to sign terms, we can’t fix your car.” ...what? “You chose a repairer who has..” hold on buddy, I don’t care who fixes it and you can’t be bothered to find someone yourself. “We’re not going to fix your car. You need to tell Zenith.” ...do you not think you should tell Zenith as you have the relationship with them? “No.”

Hi Zenith, Enterprise are refusing to fix my car. “No they arent, they are fixing it you haven’t given them some data protection information”. This untrue, and is a farce.”I’ll put you through to them” ....”Hi this is Enterprise, how can we help?” Well you could start by fixing my car? (Checks records) “...No, we can’t.”  So what now? “You’ll need to make a claim with your insurer.” No, please God no. “Okay, you can speak to the third parties insurance underwriter.” Okay, do you know who they are? “Yes” can you tell me? “No.” 🙄 Goodbye.

”Hi I’m from Enterprise, has the repair been scheduled yet?”  Really? “Yes...” Enterprise have decided not to fix my car, perhaps you should speak to your colleagues. “Enterprise don’t fix cars sir” No kidding, goodbye.🙄

”Hi I’m from the Legal Expense dept...” Really? Which company are you calling from? “Enterprise” Why? “I’m calling to say the third party has admitted full liability!” I know. “How could you know?!” Because you’ve called me seven or eight times “No I haven’t!” Look, Enterprise aren’t fixing my car, I’m not injured, why are you calling me at all? “Don’t be so rude!” I hang up at this point. 🙄

 

...So I phone the lady who crashed into me, could you tell me who your insurance underwriters are?

Zenith.”

Take down names and times/dates of phone calls. Start quoting them back to them.

My experience is, as soon as someone feels they're being held responsible, they'll start to panic.
