No, the sales person said verbally when asked. So it is deniable.

There's a VIN lookup service , which is offered by the forum for a small donation (helps run the forum) if you're interested in getting a detailed list of the car build options or you may already have that from the OPC...

Adventures in seat cushion disassembly - part I

The passenger back seat cushion has previously had a bit of a leather dye touch-in which is a bit shiny vs the rest of the cushion so I've decided it's time to get that dealt with properly....first job is to get the seat cushion out...

So to do this it's basically the same disassembly as on a 981.

Centre panel has a bit of a shiny area, you'll see it better in the final photo....

First step is put the seat forward and remove from a clip/rail the the piece of seat cushion which tucks in from the front and is engaged just below the back plastic section.

IMG_1528

I used a plastic pry tool.

IMG_1551

So that's the back of the seat cushion disengaged.

Next step is to release the "angel-wing" clips on each side of the front of the seat cushion.

IMG_1553

Pulling the seat cushion material to the centre and using a plastic putty knife to depress the wing, past the clip which holds it into the seat releases the sides.

IMG_1554

With both sides now free you can push the top of the seat cushion up to free it from a clip on the rear.

IMG_1556

Now the seat is exposed (note the bladder which is actually the lumber support mechanism, which is filled/emptied with air depending how you set it).

Now the blue seat heating connector (shown bottom left) has to be unclipped, I used a small plastic pick to disengage the little clip which holds both parts of it together.

Shiny area more evident in the middle section in this photo

Adventures in seat cushion disassembly part II

The seat cushion has plastic tabs which fit onto the white plastic frame which holds the whole arrangement together, unclip the side clips and then pull the fabric tab at the top to start to release the cushion.

Now the fun bit....there are 6 "hog rings" which hold the outer cushion to the plastic frame.

There are behind where the mid and top section seams are.

I used two skinny long nosed pliers to remove these.

Bending the bottom of the foam through the fabric I was able to release the bottom of the cover and then the remainder which gets you to...

The cushion foam on mine looked a bit manky and had split from 5 years of use....I wonder what 15 years would look like (yuck!)

And guess what the heated seat element is a one time stick job to the foam...I just knew I wouldn't be happy leaving it like that.....my OCD wouldn't allow it...

So next stop....some new foam and heater element....

@iborguk I'm tempted to start a poll to see how many pieces you have left over after reassembly. 😂

So far I only see 3 'parts' and 6 hog rings, just how much are you expecting him to have left over...?

Seat cushion reassembled, replacement 2nd hand but excellent condition cover on and cushion back in.

I need to fettle the foam a bit to get it 100% but that will do for the day and the heated seat back works

The car has been at the OPD, Bournemouth, since they collected it on  Tuesday 20th. It was due to be returned today, Friday 23rd. It wasn't.

The Service person said they had unexpected complications getting Apple Carplay to install and they were unable to get it to talk to their network, so couldn't get it to load data to the "My Porsche" App. This was unexpected and if I understood correctly, has been referred to Porsche UK support. In the App entering PCM Services shows under vehicle connections    "Connected to Another Network": what Network?

I'm unimpressed. So a weekend without the car and more information on Monday. Perhaps.

Checked the coolant and installed a new coolant cap, rev E. Apparently some of the original caps had issues re locking into the stand pipe mechanism properly.

New cap in situ and old cap in the cardboard box…

The car is back with Apple Car Play... works well.

After some investigation it seems that the car wasn't ordered with the ability to talk to My Porsche/Porsche Connect was because back in 2016 the mobile phone signal in most of Aberdeenshire was so bad as to make any attempt to use it pointless.

But with Car Play working the phone does much of what the App would do, other than not letting me see some data from my phone.

Echos of fitting a .04 cap on the 986/7 models...  History repeating, again.

I took mine to see Lee at Cotswold Porsche Specialists in Toddington for it's 6 year service.  Great guys, fantastic service but more importantly will do what you need, not what they want you to have!   Some great levels of attention too, I got a full health check write up picking up on things I hadn't asked for or pointed out.  That is what you need from a specialist!!  Great work guys.
