Repainted my boot levers from black to silver. No proper before piccys but they were very scratched and damaged. Look pretty good now 😀

Levers.jpg

Very good - can you share some info please?

What was the process you followed - high level?

What paint colour/code did you source to use on the levers?

How did you get the right graphics on the levers?

Be really great to know - asking for a friend - yes really.

Just tried it. Battery isn’t flat but as soon as I disconnected the battery negative terminal the alarm went off. So I put it to position one and am trying again!

Did it work this time?

I SAID, DID IT WORK THIS TIME?

I removed them from the car with instructions found online  then sanded back smooth. Followed by a few coats of silver.... Renault if I remember correctly, £2 from the bargain bin at Halfords 😁 which seems to match the other silver trim pieces in the cabin perfectly.I'm certain any untoned bright silver will do the job though. The decals were sourced from ebay(link below) and applied to the silver before a few coats of gloss lacquer. Then finally t-cut and waxed to bring out the shine.

I always thought they were a techquipment option like the other silver trim pieces in the cabin like the gear knob, handbrake, and door pulls but I may be wrong.

Picked up boxster from garage😀

I Supplied parts from Spyder Performance. They fitted new front top mounts and bearings, new bump stops, inner tie rods and a quick 2 wheel tracking just to tie me over while I next fit the new lower control arms and diagonal supports just for the experience. Then back for the 4 wheel alignment.
Bill £200 which I feel is amazing as I have no idea or tools to do either and I still currently have my knuckles 🤣

Diagonal supports - you meant the 'tuning forks'?

From the stories I've read about undoing some old suspension bolts, that sounds an absolute bargain.

Parts listed are the 'easy ones' and can all be done without taking the lower arms off... Wait 'til you get into the coffin arm and toe link eccentric bolts on the rear and any of the droplink bolts.  That said for a well equipped mechanic's shop with Porsche experience shouldn't be too much of a drama, it is more or a challenge to us DIYers..

Standard on S models (but can't find the build code ) along with silver finish on the door grab handles (IXTF).  Silver handbrake (IX98) and silver centre console detailing (IXJB) are factory options.

Front lower control arms and tuning forks fitted this morning which completes the front refresh, now to get front alignment checked.

Next to investigate what needs doing on the rear😀

Well done and best of luck on the rear!  From my experience (sample of 1) the much tougher end of the car.  I soon learned that if an eccentric bolt seems like it is seized at the first couple of attempts, it will require cutting.  The sooner you given in and just cut it the more time you save.

Yes , I think I will definitely order some new bolts beforehand, I can always send them back if I don’t need them

You should replace the eccentric bolts if they have been used for alignment a number of times.  This is according to Centre Gravity, who say a maximum of 4 when fully torqued.

Probably fair as whilst not close to the torque limit for a 12.9 grade bolt (I'm guessing the grade but they are bl**dy hard steel to cut) at 167Nm they are however slotted fairly deeply for the keyway in the washer so 100Nm is probably not so far short of yield.  Must remember mine have been torqued 3 times now.

Not great news! late yesterday, took my car in for the wheel alignment after all my suspension work and got a call to say the garage that had done the top mounts have left the rubber ring and metal cup off the top of the spring

So the spring just sits up against the bearing and doesn’t fit correctly. Great!
Does anyone have a picture of what has been left out so I can show garage? Just used a local garage and not Porsche Indi for this as I thought it was quite straightforward!

Could you not download an exploded parts diagram from PET? To be honest this is pretty shocking, even if they are not a Porsche specialist, I did mine with the help of a local friend who has a garage, it really isn't rocket science.

Just wish I’d taken it to my Porsche indi that usually does all my servicing with all the hassle it’s been. But they quoted me over £2000 to do the work and if and when this ever gets resolved it would have only cost under £500 inc parts and labour thanks to Spyder Performance.
I don’t usually hesitate on car bills for my other cars but £2000 on top of the £450 service it had just had seemed a bit excessive on a car that has quite a low value and is rarely used.
Definitely have learnt the hard way on this one!

I am certainly not criticising you, I usually take mine to a specialist but I had all this H&R stuff and "covid time" so tackled a few things with my friends help and car lift etc. I don't think you need pictures to explain, what you do need to do is get back there sharpish, those parts will be in the bin probably.

I had this when I bought my car. Previous owner had the top mounts done a year earlier and the garage he used did the same. I had the car 3 months and nearly lost it on a left hand bend. I couldn’t work out what was wrong until the top mount failed. In the end had all the suspension replaced and a geo redone by a trusted indie. Perfect now

Yep I’ve rang them, they are going to look Monday. Just not that confident now . Be nice to know what the rubber and metal plate they left out look like for my mindset, apparently they’ve just fitted the top mount and bearing with none of the parts they should have taken off the old part

I rang Spyder Performance to try and understand myself what has been done wrong and apparently is more common than not which I thought was quite concerning. I know you obviously pay a bit more for specialists but would have though that some generic things like suspension would be covered by a garage , apparently not!
Quite worrying really as like you said can be very dangerous
