The drivers door clicked when opening and I was worried it was the hinges, but no, the lower bolt had backed off, so an easy fix. Oil and filter service, and the first time I got to check out my new magnetic “Gold plug” it was all clean and no metal attached and the filter biopsy was perfect. Then onto more in-depth tinkering, a new OE water pump with thermostat and fresh genuine Porsche fluids, and whilst in there (as they are so close) the front engine/gearbox mount. New gearbox oil and while fiddling with the gearbox a Porsche short shift gear lever kit. Very happy to say the car shifts fantastically and it’s now ready for many more miles. (Hope to drive through France via the mountains and on to Italy and Amalfi next year). Love it, it just keeps getting better. 👍 I had to do a door hinge bolt at the weekend - upper one though so the torx access was slightly tight. I’ve done water pump & low temp ‘stat too. Bottled out of doing my own gearbox fluid, going in to a local specialist soon, is yours a 5 or 6 speed? Which short shift sid you use, and what gearbox mount? 999mch
Bought and fitted a half cover for the winter. Found an unused 987 cover on ebay for £28, not quite a perfect fit but £57 less than a new 986 one!

Halfordwill
I used my Boxster to go to work early this morning, when I switched on main beam the right indicator arrow came on. The indicators weren’t flashing but would do if selected. once I arrived I looked at the lights with main beam on and the fog lights were on dim. I am thinking intermittent socket or earth problem? Where do the lights earth? or any other ideas? thanks
edc
The first thing I would check is the multi plug connection back of headlight and whether the bracket holding the connector is solid. If the issue is one side only then it seems to rule out the switch itself.

Which short shift sid you use, and what gearbox mount? Yes, it’s a worry when you hear the door clunk, but it’s an easy fix. The engine mount was just the rubber mount and had it pressed into the aluminium frame. It was £43 from here http://onlinecarparts.co.uk/ Just checked it’s now £32 https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/spares-search.html?keyword=34705+01 The short shift assembly is a genuine porsche one, for the 997 but it’s fits both the five speed (mine) and the six speed cars. Part number 997-424-983-00 I wasn’t that impressed with it at first as it seemed to make the gearbox a little reluctant to go in second and third, but now I realise it was because the engine had sagged a little and the gearbox oil needed changing, it’s now sharp and very positive changing gear, I’m glad I did it.

Elmer Fudd
Fitted/Adjusted R/H window regulator I was getting a very irritating rattle from the regulator so decided to change it Point to note: On the original regulator the bump stop is here : But to stop the window disappearing into the abyss when winding down, if you set the new one to here : It stops here : Thus stopping any window rattle! 😁

Both of mine seem to rattle when up, investigation suggests there is movement from the guide on the rail - was this what you had?

It was rattling when up or down over bumps in the road, it was due to wear on the clamps/guides
RalphyBMW
That’s really interesting, sounds like the same problem. What brand did you go for? I’ve heard mixed views on the quality of aftermarket brands.
Boxob
Buy original. It's one part that is a false economy to buy aftermarket.

RalphyBMW
Not today, but yesterday, I swapped the front side air vents to some with the mounts for cupholders. I don't have the cupholders yet, but at least I have the option. [not very] interesting observation - the finish on the original parts from my 2001 is nicer than from the 1999 car that these came out of. Not sure if it was an uber povity model or simply a consequence of running updates.

Only down side is that is damages much more easily than the hard plastic finish.

I did the cheap skate version of this and bought an original but from salvage for £32. Worked on the basis of fitting the proper thing that came from a 986, so stops are in the right place and the chance to inspect and lubricate all the critical bits. Still on the car 2 years later and I still have the money to buy another 2 or 3 before getting to the cost of one original for either side of the car, not just eh one that failed. Pays you money and takes your choice.

½cwt
Got round to taking off the rear bumper PU to get it repaired and repainted after a minor friendly fire incident a few weeks ago. Had to drill out 2 of the 3 retaining screws under the rear spoiler and one in a wheel arch. Took the opportunity clean out all the accumulated dust etc whilst it was off and polished up the tail pipes with the better access. Off to Paint FX in Kettering tomorrow with the moulding for hopefully a one week turnaround, low price to let them just fit in as stripped bumper for spraying and a minor repair. £278 in VAT.
femreg
After cleaning the front grills, installed these zunsport black grills. Another strategy might be for them to give you a cashback code so for example if 5 referrals buy using your code or link you get say 10% back. This way they drive new sales at a higher price. RalphyBMW
My car was in at Revolution over the past few days, largely for outstanding jobs that I didn’t fancy doing myself; Rear brake lines Transmission fluid Also investigating a couple of very slight oil leaks, resulting in a new AOS (job I didn’t fancy) and 3 new spark plug tubes (which I could have done, but took the easy option). Now to concentrate my efforts on our elderly CR-V…
