Thanks all for the replies and suggestions.

They are rusted at the ends and not at the Boot, the passenger side is the worst. Its a 2006 and over 100,000 miles now so I’m going to get it done, just need to decide on the approach.

MOT due end of Feb, 😞 however this isn’t a daily so have time.

I’m in Mid Sussex, so plenty of specialists to use. Although I’m trying to DIY what I can. Thanks all for the suggestions and responses.

Remember there's 986 models out there 10 years older and 100k more miles with the same design shafts that are on their originals.  Salvage is not a bad option particularly with some extra preventative maintenance before fitting them.  would save you over £1k on the job.

For a 2.7 tip you are looking to match part number 987 332 024 06, if a S tip you need 987 332 024 25, but check with Porsche for possible up issued numbers too. ( @bally4563's example listing is for a 987.2 S manual according to the parts cat, but the source might still be helpful)

Salvage places: Douglas Valley Breakers (Steve Strange on eBay), Status Porsche, 9apart, Porsche Heaven, they will also know their tips from their sticks and 2.7s from their Ss.

Paul Lewis did my driveshaft and tried all the usual breakers - 987 shafts are rare af. The one I found on ebay was the only one and even that wasn't great - Paul did his best refurbing it and it should last another few years.

Interestingly,  the leaking metal part was only an MOT advisory, not a fail, so i could have left it until the crunching became unbearable (stereo only goes so loud)... 😉

Rear coffin arms, tie rods, tuning forks and drop links.

Did one side today. Drop link was a complete sod.

Other side tomorrow.

Top Tip … Drop links are only a sod if you are doing them yourself!!!

I changed the near side drop link tonight. Along with the NS control arms.

Top tip - If you're replacing them with the control arms etc, take the strut off first (3 nuts and the drive shaft nut). Takes 10 mins or so but with it laying on the floor you'll get a cleaner cut with an angle grinder on the link side to get to the hex nut bit. Loads of plus gas the night before. 18 mm impact socket and an milwauke impact wrench. Came loose within about 5 seconds of 'dugga duggas'. Out 20 seconds later.

OS took me 2-3 hrs with heat and a lump hammer. That was after I eventually removed the strut. I'd cut the link off before hand but managed to take half of the hex nut with it so couldn't get an impact socket on it properly. Lesson learnt!

Also, clean it all up and put the new drop link in whilst it's still on the floor. Easier. Ask me how I know. Don't forget some copper slip.

Moreover, with the strut off you've loads more room to get in with the recip saw for the coffin arm and tie rod bolts too.

Which model Milwaukee impact wrench do you have?  Often needs a fair amount of grunt to shift those seized drop links.

Looks great, makes such a difference. Mine was done my Royal before I bought it and it’s much nicer in the hand.

Decent road trip today and was pleasantly surprised by the economy

WCLG8Vg.jpeg

my 2.9 used to impress me with consumption figures on decent runs - even in commuting traffic it gave better mpg than my old toyota did.

the current 3.4 - less so - have to try really hard to see more than 35mpg and thats on long motorway runs at constant speed.
