Partially installed my bargain buy in the Boxster.... I say partially as the arial lead in the Boxster is the standard size where as the new head unit is smaller so an adapter will be needed.... It's the Becker head unit which is the usual Radio and CD of the CDR22 made for Porsche by Becker.... but this is also the Sat Nav version from the Rover 75 and it's a bargain price in comparison to the Porsche branded identical unit Also partially fitted a new stereo today to replace my CDR-22, but also need an aerial adapter so will be complete tomorrow.
Rav
I cant take the credit and it wasn't today - but yesterday. But my wife finally worked out how to pair my smart phone to my SPH-DA120 Pioneer car stereo. She also worked out that it would play music from a usb dongle attached to the cables in the passenger footwell. We managed to make 16GB work - now to see how big I can go! I noticed that 64GB memory sticks are dirt cheap now via Ebay?

Mr96er
I walked past my 986 this morning and then stopped. Looked back, then opened my Qashqai doort and got in to drive to work. I'll see her on the weekend and keep her special that way. Prolonged honeymoon period!
drumsterphil
Stereo fitted and my genuine velcro mat retainers have turned up, so no more slidey mat syndrome.

What is going on with the car tax website - if i buy a tax disc this evening, it will start on the 1st Oct (so 31 days of wasted tax). So i have to buy it tomorrow morning :-(. I wish my insurance was so cheap.. £1200 a year for me

Cheers Phil, appreciated those mats don't half slide up over the pedals which makes braking an entirely unpleasant experience

pingping010101
Over the last 2 days I have used the Renovo kit I bought last year to clean, re-colour and then re-proof the roof on my 986. It was well worth the £45 I paid for the kit and well worth the time and effort. The hood is a lovely dark blue and appears to shrug off water a lot more easily although it doesn't run off and pool as much as I thought it would. Maybe it needs a couple more coats of the proofer. Mine was perfect till I installed the 996 TB and 987 airbox, then was running way too rich, so wasn't getting the most of the upgrades. Will keep you posted, I thought it was only an issue if you used the 987 maf housing? Who did you use to remap the fuelling issue?

The previous owner had a REVO remap done way back but it wasn't configured correctly so he had it de-activated. Last week i took it to a REVO specialist and re-instated it and configured it correctly - supposedly re-adjusting the fueling. I've also put and underdrive pulley on, so it's back to the dyno next weekend. It certainly feels a lot more lively.

They mainly cater for mainstream VAG vehicles but as the REVO map had already been paid for by the previous owner, getting it re-instated and configured was free! Lonewolfgjp
I also went for a winter wash, too cold really but it was minging. Turned out quite well although I couldn't be bothered with the aqua wax and just went for a fast dry with the drying towel. Should get the hardtop back in Tuesday... boxtaboy
Thought the spacing was too close together and not curved as it should be for my Porsche lettering, so redid it with my self rigged template... Top is old placement, bottom is new:
C11RJC
@boxtaboy a subtle but definite improvement
Araf
Yes, I think the spacing looks better now. Did you measure it from another car?
boxtaboy
Thanks guys. The closely placed letters started to really bother me after seeing how Porsche spaces them on their newer cars (I put my original set on before they started adding the letters to the 981 Boxster/Cayman). I still think the placement is too wide and too high up on the 981 from the factory, so I copied the spacing and curvature from the first gen Panamera, and put the letters 2" up from the trunk lid which is where the original Boxster emblem was. I thinks it looks well proportioned to the 986 trunk lid.
