What have YOU done to you're 986 today ?

Well I paid for a new clutch and DMF today.

I have had my 2004 2.7 facelift for 10 years now and the clutch started slipping.  The previous clutch was replaced at around 50,000 so this time I had the DMF replaced.

Very happy.  The clutch action is so light and the the whole drivetrain feels like driving a low mileage demo.

10 years of happy Boxster ownership and this was the largest expense.

Remap is a defo at some point, but negating the extra noise, which can be misleading? However seat of the pants experience and pick up there is a major improvement, and I'm running the 986 MAF. Would be looking for recommended place in the Staffs/ Cheshire region who could do the Remap??

Read EDC's blue car thread, we had his custom mapped up that way, I think near Liverpool.

I also think Ninemeister in Warrington can map, but please check

Going to put the battery on charge as I haven't driven it for several weeks! (Too busy trying to get out on my BMW F800GT while teh roads aren't slippery, but even that has been few and far between rides as 'work' keeps on interfering!)

Got Viola out of the garage ready for the run to work and back tomorrow.

She is booked into Steve Bull specialist cars on Monday for a inspection. Its dripping a bit of oil and on start up was a bit chattery - is that normal or is that IMS failiure?

"specialist" isn't the impression I gained from the history on mine, but hope you get it sorted.

A bit of chatter on startup (for a second or so) is normal, and if usually oil getting back into the lifters etc.

How many miles did the 2nd clutch last? Just curious. Mine's 15 yrs old and still on original clutch (72k miles).

You've potentially got a way to go: mine's 18 years and 92k and I know others can trump that!

That's good to hear. It would be nice to get 100k out of the original clutch. I don't baby mine, so it prob won't last that much longer, but I'm hopeful!

Guy in the states has over 300k on the original clutch.............

Ah yes...I forgot about MarcW/Macster. He drives his Boxster mostly highway miles though I think, but still amazing that his clutch lasts so long. It's an 02 base, and he still has the original IMS in there too!

Pretty sure my 986S was still on the original clutch when I sold it with 127,000 miles on it

I'm pretty sure your current one is on the original clutch, from what the OPC told me.

Drives like a car with 8,000 miles on not the 108,000 it has :D

While you are there Mr Moderator, can you ammend the title of the thread to say "your" rather than the current "you're" :D

This was exactly the reson why I volunteered to help moderate.  I pick some of these up as soon as they happen, but if there's any historical ones, ping me a message or hit the 'report' button, let me know, and I'll get them done. :)

I wonder what the last owner was up to as my clutch needed replacing with less than 40,000 miles. My old Mk1 2 litre Cavalier still had its original clutch at 120,000 miles and I pulled a large heavy caravan many thousands of miles over many a mountain pass! Come to think of it the only clutch I've had problems with is one of the two clutches on a Golf with a DSG gearbox fitted.

Oh I've just worked it out: to-day an elderly lady took off on her Nissan Micra very sedately with the engine revving at almost maximum revs while slipping the clutch to control her speed. Perhaps that is the reason some Boxsters seem to wear out their clutches prematurely. ;)
