What have YOU done to your 987 today

Got caught out on the motorway.  Roof down. Huge rainstorm.  Was about 2 miles before I could get into an slip road and slow enough to put it up.  Managed to keep dry ish By keeping speed to around 45. Had a bit coming over the top of the side windows but 10 mins in the garage when I got home had it all sorted.

think I got more that a few looks and a I bet a few people are right now telling their mates about the “loser in the Porsche convertible getting soaked on the motorway.”

still made me smile so actually.  I won.

I had a Porsche baseball cap and shades on as well.

I would have taken the p*ss out of me if I saw me.

better than when I had me roof down in my Audi in the snow.  It’s funny how everyone knew i was a “banker”.

I think that’s what they were shouting.

Had a 111 point check at Glasgow Porsche centre.
Nothing to worry about from what I can tell

No gas in a/c system which I knew about, could be a leak, could have evaporated. I'll get a cheap Kwik Fit regas to confirm.

They recommend a brake fluid change.

Very slight play within the steering rack. Advised to monitor and allow to develop?

Non Prosche battery fitted.

Oil "sweat" from oil filter housing. The car had an oil change before I picked it up so chances are it is a little spill or they havn't fitted it properly.

Slight oil "sweat" from rear crank area. They advise to monitor as only slight at present.

Front tyres over 6 years old and badly cracked, which again I knew about. They recommend replacing immediately.

Rear tyres coming up on 6 years old, recommend replacing in near future.

Shame as there is plenty of tread on them too. ~6mm with even wear.

Front pads are at 10mm, rears are at 6mm

Front discs are at 27.6mm and rears are at 22.9mm

And thats it. They commented on the condition of the bodywork and the wheels being excellent for a 15 year old, 60k mile car.
I'm well chuffed and now have piece of mind. :thumbsup_still:

Time to have some "fun" before changing them over 😃

That's an odd observation, like Porsche manufacter batteries themselves.

But overall she sounds in good health/

Even cheaper if you get the Groupon voucher for Euromaster-ATS.

When you price the tyres up take a look at Falken.
My recent 987 also had old tyres that had hardened and had slight cracking.

I read a lot of forum posts suggesting Michelin and Pirelli etc.
I tend to mainly drive in the dry and don't track my car.

I managed to get tyres for £114 a corner which are nice and quiet.
So saved a few bob...

You’ll burn in hell for not using MP4S or N rated tyres!!!!!

I had Avons on the front of my S and found them to be very good and quiet - like you though, I didn’t track them

Here in France just had a nice drive in my 3.2 S and given her a good look over after sorting my IMS seals out that were leaking badly and pleased to report bone dry.

Added bonus is that fuel prices have dropped massively and cheaper to buy from Total that Super Markets €1.48 today.

Smiling to your face whilst at the same time emptying your wallet...

They asked me when I checked in if I had N rated tyres and I expected the big sale before I left but they were pretty chill. Not that I'll be using them for any work. I'll hopefully find a local trustworthy specialist.

They are useful for parts.  They will always be cheapest on any genuine Porsche parts, so get to know the parts team, but also be aware that there is a lot of knowledge on here as to who make bits for Porsche (a lot of the suspension and steering is TRW, water pump is Pierburg, electric sensors are largely Bosch for some examples) so look for those brands when looking for parts too.

Useful to know. Thanks.
